Like I said, something new every day. If you are in the area, you may want to look at
this one, and offer $10K cash.

Wow another great looking one. I was acutally looking at a very similar boat except it was a 2002 h200, I hesitated and missed the opportunity, but the owner ended up letting it go for $12K. I'm pretty confident I'm going to pull the trigger on the 180, as long as the mechanical inspection checks out. I'm also going to get a quote from halls on the cost to add a swim platform and or wake tower.

go with works for you man, if it were me id look a little longer for the 200 or like mine is a 05h190 (which for some reason that year they made two 190's, one 19 and one that is a 20) i have the 20 and looking at the pics of the 180 it looks super cramped in comparison. plus the bigger boats come with the swim platform if you want that it could easily cost the difference by itself between the 180 and 190. oh and fyi the 5.0 is worth the extra too. we pull twin line tubes with two 300 lb guys on it with no problems taking off or anything

Well, any updates on the H180 in Mears?
Not 12K, but might be worth looking and make a lower offer on this 2002 200 Horizon. If you have not already commited to the 180.

Definitely keep looking and be patient. The right one will appear! I got my 2003 H240 5.7 last year for $15K. Only 160hours on the engine!

Update, I just heard back from halls who checked it out for me. They said that overall it's in great shape, a few small things. A couple snaps for the carpet need to be replaced, the struts for the engine compartment are weak and should be replaced. The 1 major thing is that they noticed a rattle in the front of the engine when bringing it down from speed, they think it's a timing chain rattle, quoted price is about $800 to pull the engine and tear down the front to investigate then any parts required. They also said thermostat needs to be replaced since they couldn't get it up to temperature. If I can get the owner to drop the price to cover the repairs then should I proceed?

Thanks for the link. Too bad the op did not post a conclusion. I'm not sure how to proceed now, last thing I want is to be chasing a gremlin that can't be solved. Argh. Maybe I should just get my deposit back and call it a day.

He did, on another thread, but it won't help much.

Quote:
Yes, as Bjcsc sais, the tensioner and new timing chain set did not repair the problem (noise) on the Volvo 4.3 pictured. I never was able to diagnose the problem.

My engine builder recommended the tensioner based on a GM (not Volvo-Penta) service bulletin. I can't find the bulletin but it had a parts list. As I recall the parts were about $250.00

That's not confidence inspiring at all. Might be time to walk away.

Here's Your Sign as Jeff Foxworthy might say.

I called the owner to tell him the results of the inspection, he was surprised to hear of it. Anyhow I had already put a deposit down so I was just looking for it to be returned. Owner had no problem with that and was understanding about not wanting to continue especially with me being a great distance away. I'm down a few bucks for the inspection, but money well spent right.

About an hour after I spoke with the owner he gives me a call back, as he finally had a chance to speak with the marina (Halls as recommended by Capt'n'morgan). Kind of in a huff he says ahhh they are way too anal, you don't have to yank the engine to pull the timing cover, just remove the back seats, that's how JC marine in loddington does it. He says "totally un-necessary" extra work. Halls said they want to pull it so not only can they tear down easier, but they can inspect way better too. Anyhow, Owner still was cool about sending the deposit back, just thought it was sort of telling how he responded to Halls suggestions. BTW, Joe at Halls was very helpful and courteous, I would recommend them again.

Search continues friends.

I guess I should update this. I mutinied and ended up buying a 2004 Monterey 190LS Montura. Sunsport seating. Volvo 5.0GL and SX drive. For posterity here's a quick pick I snapped on my way back from buying it.
