I have a 2004 Horizon 210 with a fuel tank leak. After an exhausting attempt to obtain access for fuel tank removal via sliding aft, have come to the conclusion that the engine (5.7l GXI) must be removed. Any suggestions for alternatives?

Sorry if it's a stupid question, but is there not a removeable floor section above the fuel tank? Both the Sundowners I have had (1999, 2004 models) had such a panel; the later one has storage under the floor and that needs to be taken out as well ( I think, I have never had to do it thankfully). Boat manufacturers do not always do things logically though.

It's a great question and makes perfect sense to me. As aerospace designer myself, I would have expected the engineers to have allowed adequate access to remove a fuel tank. Anyway, I have heard back from my local marine service center and they confirmed that an access panel must be cut into the deck to remove the fuel tank. Oh boy, what a project!

Thanks for your reply.

That's a real shame; it's unbelievable they seem to have gone backwards in terms of design.

There's no panel already there!? My '05 has one; I wouldn't have thought they would do it any differently in a 210 vs. a 230.

Mike,

I was very surprised to read that as well!
