New to the forum. My family and I just picked up a 1998 240 Horizon with VP 5.7 gsi DP and 310 hours. I think we got a pretty good deal. Interior is very clean, with just a couple of blemishes in the rear back rest of the sundeck. This has the large sundeck with bench seat option and captains chairs. The gelcoat looks pretty good, but needs a good buffing. (next summer) The first day we had it, we noticed the starboard side trim shaft leaking, nothing major, just a seal. Other than that, we have the infamous trim sender problem, where we can lower the drive, but not raise on occasion. Ive found by simply just stopping, and taking off again, raising the bow, the trim works perfectly again. (not sure why, there are no lose connections, it has to be the sender)
Anyway, the boat rides fantastic, and really handled the massive chop of Lake Geneva Wisconsin on a holiday Saturday last weekend. I was hoping to see a little mph out of it, but 47 is where it gets to, but it does get there quickly. No hesitation what so ever, just gets up and goes to that speed. Getting on plane isnt a problem at all.
Overall, Im really impressed with the Four Winns. This is my first FW, and we have been out of boating for the last 15 years. I think we made a wise choice in boat, and at 12g even for the boat, trailer, bow and mouring cover, dual battery setup, along with 10 sets of rope and about 20 ski vests/life preservers, bumpers, anchors and a service manual, and a fish finder device, we couldnt be happier.
Its good to be back out on the lake. I didnt realize how much Ive missed it!!
