Has ANY one sean OR used the new (came out in 2005) Volvo trim tabs?

Seen them on several boats. An aquaintance of mine in Maryland has them on his 320SY. He loves them.

What are you wanting to accomplish with the trim tabs?

Here are ones on a similar boat -- same as mine -- just no thruhull exhaust.

So Dale, how much of a difference did you notice with the tabs?

The tabs function as they should ---

First -- they can make planing quicker -- if you have 8-10 people on board, any less and the Volvo DP pops out quickly anyway.

Second -- you can stay on plane at a slower speed -- useful in salt water in large rolling waves.

Third -- you can adjust for side to side variances, such as where people are sitting -- just tap the approproate tab.

Finally -- what they DO NOT DO --- they do nothing for top speed or for porposing when trying to get the drive trim higher.

One quick addition -- in normal smooth conditions they do nothing for improving gas usage.

I have a fuel sensor linked to my chartplotter GPS through a NMEA2000 network. I therefore see fuel usage in MPG or GPH on my screen whenever I want.

The best mileage is with tabs fully up -- and drives trimmed out just the right ammount to raise the bow slightly. Just as you would expect -- the only difference is I know when I get my best mileage for any load or speed because I easily see it and can adjust the boat for it.

I noticed a few posts on trim tabs lately and apologize if I'm hijacking or diverting this thread, but I noticed from DaleG's transom shot that the tabs are located immediately adjacent to the outdrive. I've also seen shots where the tabs are located on the pods themselves.

When I installed my Smart Tabs, everything I read said to install them as far outboard as possible, so I put them on the edge of the pods on my Sundowner 205.

Right or wrong?

If you look at the stern/pods/hull design of the 2003 240H, it's tough to mount them anywhere but where Dale did.

I would not have a boat without tabs. I have tried the smart tabs, and I must say, they work. Better on some boats then others.

Yes, I agree with you Dale on the above. I have never seen anything like the Volvo tabs. So I thought I would put this post out and see what comes back.
