Again I'm back! Would like some assistance in adjusting my steering cable. I seem to have some excess free play in the steering. It's not tight (as a car would be).
I have a 1986 Horizon 19' with 4.3 ltr I/O. Thanks again!

Is it a OMC?? The steering-arm on top of the gimbal-housing could have some slop in it, or just be loose. It will probably never be tight like a car, so don't expect to get that. I'd look up under the dash at your steering mech too and just see if anything looks sloppy.

Thanks for the tip. It's an OMC by the way. Also do you have any experience in adjusting the linkage for getting the motor to go into reverse. It goes into forward but not so easily for reverse.
Thanks,
Terry

I have the same problem in steering!! The boat only has 11hrs on it. I did question the dealer and was told that it was normal. I checked the drive and rack, it LOOKS ok. Nothing is loose, to me the problem in in the rack!! I am going to have a better look at it later!!

Terry,
It's been about 12 years since I've had a OMC 4.3. Do you have a red-shifter-cable at or on top of the motor?? Your'es still may be the older-style, which might not be red.
