Ok. So like I said I have been away from boating and apparently mechanics as well.
I now realize that the engine is a early style fuel injection system. It seems that the injectors are shooting gas into the intake instead of spraying. Has anyone had to replace the injectors before or the ECM? if so can you estimate the costs by any chance?

I have also traced the speedometer back to the transom and guess what? It looks as though the old speedo sending unit has been removed and the hole patched over!! Any ever heard of this before? If not, is the speed sending unit supposed to be on the upper portion of the transom? It seems that that is where the wire goes, and exactly at the patch area?

Any ideas?
