Not sure where to mount the meter. '98 HQ
I don't want to mess with the cockpit console so is it okay to put this in the engine compartment?
If so, what is the easy way to install?
Thanks.

My last boat was a 97 180...it was mounted on top of the flame arrestor cover.

My 1999 Sundowner had the hour meter in the engine compartment on a GRP horizontal surface. The wires may already be there on your boat; a purple one if I remember correctly, plus a black to ground. They looked like a standard part of the engine wiring harness.

If it's 3.0, does not have one.

On my 200 the factory hour meter is mounted in the engine compartment. No problems.

It is the 3.0 and the original engine was replaced last year so I'm sure no wires are there.
I like the look of the console install Bobaloo but will keep it in the engine compartment.
Thanks for the replies.

Wires are there... only need a ground and the ignition switch wire.

Okay, I have the meter on the way. I'll look for the wires when I get the boat out next trip.

Nice install bobaloo....perfect meter too...mechanical dial is for sure the way to go....the digital ones fail and you lose all record of hours....mounted at helm you can see it is working and are able to monitor it. I have the built in digital system on dash in center of the console, but will be mounting a mechanical one like you bobaloo.
