I have a new 2007 horizon 240, just got it a month ago, I noticed that whenever I shift from neutral to drive forward or reverse i hear a loud thud from the transmission, is this normal?, i was thinking that the idle speed of the engine is just too high @ 800 RPM, when the owner's manual specs ia indicating a 600 - 650 RPM idle speed. anyone who has this kind of problem in the past, i will highly appreciate your inputs.

In my opinion, a loud thud would not be normal. I hear nothing at all. I suppose a fast idle could cause that. Definitely something the dealer should check out.

800 is definitely too fast. That could make any thunking worse, however I doubt it would disappear at 650. Some Volvos are silent, some make a bit of a thunk. There is an acceptable range of tolerances in the gears & shafts in the drive unit, and if you happen to have one that has a bit of play in it, it will probably make a bit of noise when shifting.

I think you should get that idle speed checked out, but I wouldn't worry much about the thunk.

Thanks for the reply, I will surely have this thing fixed when I bring my boat to the dealer for a 20 hour service. As of now that is my only concern, other that that, the boat is perfect.

Gorgeous. I've always liked that color on a boat.

Thanks to all of you, yes I am surely enjoying the performance of this boat
(aside from the problem that I mentioned earlier in this thread)
it is just the right size for me and my family, I also fish out of this boat while in anchor/resting, but mostly she is used to pull wake boarders and tubers.
