Hi folks. Seeking a bit of advice.

Had the boat winterized year before last (October 2010, yes... was unable to get it out on the water at all last year). I wanted to take it in to have it ready to go for this weekend, but my service guys can't get to it this week. From what they say, all they have to do is put the plug(s) in and it will be ready to go.

This sounds like something I should be easily able to do. I am work on cars regularly, so I'm sure I should be able to handle it with a bit of advice, unless there is something else besides the plugs which is being missed/overlooked.

Can anyone tell me where on the block the plug(s) are located? I have the 6 cylinder.

Is there anything else which is being overlooked? I of course am expecting the battery to be dead.

Thanks for any help!

Jason

One on each side of the block, just in front of the starter on the left side as you face the engine and the other near the dipstick tube on the other side. Each manifold has a rubber cap or plug. If they disconnected the hoses you have to re-connect those too. You might consider replacing the raw water impeller seeing as it's been sitting a while....

The drive oil should be okay it's sealed but the engine oil needs replacement. New impeller is a must, no questions asked. Hand squeeze every hose and wiggle every belt hard to make sure they're not dry rotted. If there's any gas in there you have to take it out. Undo the coil lead and let it crank over a few times to get everything lubricated before attempting to start. Use the battery as a core to buy a new one, it's a gonner.

If it was stored with the drive up and not down for 2 years, go ahead and save money to replace the drive bellow and do it ASAP. It's not going to last long once it sees use again.

The engine oil was replaced when it was winterized... you think I should still change it since it hasn't been on the water since?

Yup, 2 years open to the air is a long time. Oil is cheap. Engines are not.
