Fuel, speedometer, trim gage, etc. we're working last week but when I turned on today, they worked at first then stopped working. I got them to work one more time then nothing. Blower also stooped but started again as I was checking the fuses. Any tips are appreciated. I have a 2001 horizon 190. Does anyone know any detail about the VDO?

I am new to the forum and just got back into boating after 20 years of no boat. I am very rusty, brushing up quick.

VDO guages are garbage and should never have been put in a boat. This is a common problem on these boats of that era, I have them too. The speedometer has been problematic since the day I got the boat brand new. They do have a drop in replacement with normal guages on them but have read that is costs like $700 if you go this route. I have seen pictures and they look a lot nicer than the vdo guages. You might be able to find a place to repair the cluster. Check the connector in the back first and take it out and reseat it if possible.

Yep, VDO is the culprit. My tach hasn't worked since I got the boat and my other guages sometimes stop working, except for fuel and temp (they have never stopped). Weird the way it is random. Upgrading to Faria as soon as my wallet allows. Seriousrob did an excellent conversion, here http://www.smwebhead.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=9061

Actually the guages themselves are not bad, the problem with the CDO cluster is due to a bad grounding issue, any significant spike in system voltage, such as a incorrect jump start, will fry part of or the entire dash. A place called Rapair/CDI Electronics in Alabama fixes them, they add a new ground wire that has to be run directly to the battery, and you will have no more issues after that...and if you did they will warranty their repair.

Good info to know. Hi from Cape Vincent,NY. Although if i had the money I would go the replacement dash , the replacement standard guage cluster is sweet looking.

I'm in total agreement with Brian. I removed my cluster when I bought the boat and fogged the rear with Rust Check. I'm convinced that the slightest corrosion on any guage connection will cause amperage to increase, thus frying the guage.

My boat's a 95 with twin engines (more guages) all original and working fine.

Knock on wood,,,someone smack my head :D
