I think you're headed in the right direction, a 20' boat on a single axle trailer (with a 5200 axle, 15" 6 lug wheels and 225/75-15 D rated tires and 12" disc brakes) is perfect. In my parking situation, a tandem trailer would be a major pain in the neck. I could not maneuver it in my driveway by hand, the sharp 90* turn I have to make would be difficult with tires scrubbing bad, 1 more axle and set of brakes to maintain. I only tow locally anyway so I just keep the axle/bearings/brakes/tires very well maintained and carry a spare.

Now as far as I/O vs outboard, yes I have promoted the OB idea for a bowrider here for some time. It makes boating easier and long run less trouble for most boaters unless you are like me, a backyard mechanic for 40 years this year, wrenching my own machines since '72. IF, and that's a big IF, the designers re-designed that top cap, to make it easy to get at the engine, and did not put engine stringers in the way, an I/O can be fine to work on. When I finally put some pix up on one of the hosting sites, I'll show you all how easy it was to get at the I/O installation on the older boats. Seriously, if I had to get a newer I/O bowrider, the first thing I'd do, is take it to the 'glass shop that painted my boat (best in Long Island) and ask them to find a way to make all that 'glass round the engine REMOVABLE , like I did with the wood bulkheads in mine. I split the big bulkhead behind the rear seat into 2 halves and put a take apart hinge in the middle, it all comes apart with 6 bolts and wing nuts. Five minutes and its out of my way. If I can do it so can FW or any other boat company......

I did this not just to make the yearly winterizing ritual easier, but what if you have to change a fuel filter on the water one day, the way they are made now lots a luck, you are going to spill gas in the bilge. If I had to do that, or change the starter even, I could do it with the boat in the water in about a half hr. If something is not made to be easily serviceable, I would not buy it....

BTW Love that Glastron, now its time for it to show up in another James Bond movie boat/car chase....

That's a nice looking Glastron. They've always been decent looking (and underpowered).

So you believe the GT160 (16'6") with a 115 HP outboard and the GT180 with 150 hp outboard are underpowered?

I must have passed up on at least 5 really nice Glastron express cruisers because they all had the stupid 220hp v8. Most bowriders have the 3.0. Sure, the option is there for bigger but you never see em.

I'm sure the OB sport boats are plenty fast. Just for fun go watch the Glastron jumps over the '73 Chevy Impala police car sequence from Live and Let Die (Bond film). Came out when I was a senior in HS. I think the boat and engine (2 stroke Evinrude) were modded to an extent, but OMC even bragged about this in some of their ads...

here 'tis....go to :22 to see it, bad guys chasing him did not so so well.....

Wow,
It is good to see the outboards are provoking some discussions!!!

The new boats look the goods, and seem to be well thought out. I notice on the FW website some photos of a bow roller option too ( for us who anchor).

Outboard bowriders are pretty come down here in oz, one of the other boats I have been looking at is an Australian built signature 535br (Hainessignature.com.au).

A video walk through of the new 180 for you....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-f3wgzRbG48&feature=youtu.be

I like the lines.... but Iam not sure of the reverse sunpad/seat treatment on the i/o. I like the idea, but I don't know if I would trade the rear seating for the storage space that we have on our 180. I think the standard sunsport seating is an option.

Mind you, I would want the outboard if I bought this boat...

I absolutely LOVE the new windshields. I do agree with most though, that H180 is smaller then my 2000 H180. They jumped on the integrated swim platform bandwagon and unfortunately that counts as part of the LOA. It's what the consumers wanted though....

and it's what I want too. I freaking love the integrated swim platform on my 195cs. That lip wanna be swim something on my old 2000 H180 was a joke.

I want one!!! However, it's a bit too small. Hey Four Winns, if you're reading, please produce the exact same boat in a 20-footer with a max OB hp of around 250 hp or so. Oh yeah, give me a fish & ski version too!!! I'll pick it up next week :D

Back in the late 80s early 90s, you could get a 200 Horizon or a 205 Sundowner with up to 175 hp outboard power (OMC) the boats were a good 400 lbs lighter than even the V-6 I/O versions....those were the largest FWs with an outboard option I was able to see going back in time. And these boats were physically larger than the current 200 at 20'9"

That little 180 is a sharp boat...Give the customer the 200 size and a choice of outboards, giving the choice of power will further add to sales because some people only want Yamaha or whatever...
