I found some LED light strips at Walmart that are 18 inches long. I think I'll put them in the gunnel compartments as well where you put the blue ones. I am going to go with red because the illumination on my stereo is red and I think it would look good with that. Can't decide if to wire them to come on with the anchor light or the courtesy lights though.

I wired mine to their own switch. I had a 4th blank switch on my helm. I bought some of mine at West Marine and some at Pep Boys (the under gunnell were the Pep Boys as they were the long thin strips. The wires on them are very thin gauge, but I was able to make it work.

I have some for the bow, but ran out of time when I was installing as I need to find some creative locations and where to run the wiring. They are my post April 15th project in addition to beginning of boating season maintenance. The nice thing is there is some light on the boat when at night and yet it does not blind you while driving.

Looks nice when sitting out back of a place we go for Memorial Day, music playing and you can see in the cooler  I only had a day shot available. I really need to organize the pictures. I owe deafwish a picture of my battery wiring and can only find ones from when I was in the middle of the project.

P.S. The Mako's are friends of mine and tied up with mine. Pardon the mess. The boat gets a lot of use on Memorial Day weekend.

That looks like a magical spot you're moored at! 8)
I'll be a pretty simple relocation for the cranking battery to go from starboard to port.
The 12" cable from my crank batt' going to my Perko selector looks to be 4AWG.
If I move this batt to the port side, will 1/0AWG cable to the Perko, suffice?
I'll just run another earth to somewhere on the engine block, on the port side...

Thanks for the kick in the behind to get this done, PDACPA. :D

Daz.

My Starboard battery is the factory installed battery and I guess is considered the main crank battery. The perko switch lets me select Battery 1 or Battery 2 or "ALL." I usually alternate (when I remember) which battery I run off of each time out to keep them charged and if we have been on the hook with the stereo playing, I switch over to the other battery to start and then back to re-charge the other. A Buddy of mine had rolls of the battery (positive and negative) cable and the connectors and showed me how to make my own. He likes to buy a neglected boat and restore it (see the two Mako's in the picture..the one in front of mine he did in 08 I think and I helped him finish the one with the dark blue paint next to mine right before Memorial Day that was basically it's shake down cruise.

I think I spent more time figuring out where and how I wanted to run the lines and securing the battery tray (West Marine cause it is local and I usually decide on projects at the last minute).

I have noticed that you don't run with your carpet in. My carpet is shot and I don't really want to spend the $500.00 to get new snap in carpet. How is it without having it in? I'm also thinking of some outdoor carpet from Lowes or Home Depot just to have some so feet don't get hot and for a little padding. Suggestions? :?:

Carpet has never been in the boat since the day I bought it (bought it used). It is rolled up and in my garage. Absolutely zero issuing running without. I actually think the carpet would get mildew or mold and easily stained. Drinks fall out of cup holders or splash, kids drop food. Who cares. Hose it down (heck I carry a 5 gallon bucket while out and wash the deck down) and good to go. You never worry about rain getting the carpet wet and holding the water either. Never too hot either and I am in Florida and out in the sun on high 90's days.

Really appreciate that! I think we'll give it a try this season. The dog will just have to deal with a beach towel. I've got a project to get the non-skid cleaned up, but me and the soft scrub can handle that. 8)

This stuff works wonders with a small hand held stiff brush. I never use soft scrub anymore. Do a section with soft scrub and a section with this and you will see the difference and how much easier.

Even works on the scuffs you get on the sides or where feet hit.

That price is way out of whack on Amazon. I think my wife gets it at Walmart for a few dollars. Shop it.

I had given the deck a good scrubbing the day before. This is last July down in the Florida Keys for mini-season (spiny lobsters).
