Thank You,
I downloaded and made my own version for a small boat, inland waters with an outboard. (I added a few items and removed others )

I will share if you want :)

Yes, share please! I'm sure there will be others that match your situation closer than mine.

Here is my first draft

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwuBpudTwwJvTV9CbE45aS1GdVE/edit?usp=sharing

And the word document
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwuBpudTwwJvblFMd0dYY0d5azQ/edit?usp=sharing

You will notice that a LOT of it is the same as yours. (cut and pasted to be exact ;) ). I just added text boxes so I could move things around to split it into two pages (printed double sided ) so it can be laminated (with a few additional items added )
Added check for running lights, Throwable life preserver (required by law here) and float plan
inserted outboard motor steps
I fuel after the trip so the tank stays full.
We have issues with invasive plant species so mine includes procedures to limit that.
Please feel free to take, add, modify, comment

I'm grounded right now because the FAA is stupid about CPAP but I flew anything that someone was willing to give me the keys to for years, including teaching full time. Citabrias are my favorite for knocking around and training new pilots, Cirrus makes a nice traveling machine if the pockets are deep, Mooneys are efficient and fast, and I've spent many hours in PA28s and C172s, of course. Helicopters are super expensive but there's nothing like an hour working on hovering as a personal reward. The single most fun thing I've flown, though, is the Zeppelin NT. That is an amazing ship. Must feel similar piloting a high-tech super yacht, but in 3 dimensions.

NICE! LIST, Zeppelin sounds awesome!, I have had fun with the hovering also, funny that you don't actually fly anywhere just try to do something that looks much easier than it is. R22 and R44 a couple of hours each, If you haven't flown a glider take some time and go up for an hour in one you won't be disappointed, Preferably a GROB 103 it will have you playing that Top Gun music in your head in a heartbeat.

Thanks for sharing!

I laminate mine as well, but after either folding it over or printing on each side to have a compact card.

I include "running lights" in "systems". I thought about listing each system, but decided I could pretty well use the switch panels as a built-in checklist for those and keep my printed list shorter.

The throwable is required for me, too, as well as a properly-sized one for each person. It probably is worth summarizing on the list.

What is "signal departure"?

It is one long burst from the horn. Then put the boat in gear. It gives people a heads up you are going to move.

In my case it is one long followed by three short. Which means in getting underway and backing.

You often feel odd sometimes when you are the only one doing it BUT in CT you are taught to do just that. (we have a required classroom time here in CT for a license)

Interesting. The only people I've actually seen use a horn for passing and such are the Sheriffs. I suspect I would startle the other boaters more than assist them if I did all the official signaling. I wonder if it is a regional thing. Sounds like a search and maybe a new thread in my future...

Great list. You've given me a few checks to add to mine. Have had one for 30 years and there's always something new.

Thanks, Graham

That should tell ya something ;). It is the correct way to operate BUT many don't adhere to the "rules". It seems that smaller the craft (or more remote the area) the more "rules" are neglected.

I can navigate into long island sound with commercial vessels if I want. soooo I practice the basic rules to keep them in memory.

It would be an awesome thread to discuss this. I will look for it soon
