Well pulled the boat out for the season on Monday and mine has the same hole! Even with that, it takes time for the oil level to equalize. I found a discussion on this same topic on thehulltruth.com apparently its also an issue on some 4 stroke outboards. So the moral of the story is, don't be too quick to think you engine is over filled (cold engine not run for a while) or low on oil (hot engine just run). Pull the stick out, wait a moment for the oil level in the tube to equalize. Then check it.

Hey Lou,

What I'm trying to state is that my dipstick doesn't seal over that tube hole, so the oil level will always be equalized in the tube! :wink:

Mine doesn't either yet the level consistently changes as I noted before.
