Craig, my gatorhyde has always been a bit dull - was never shiney as such even from day 1. I guess if you wanted to shine it up a bit, maybe wipe it over with Armourall or similar...

Deafwish - yep, Gatorhyde is an elastomeric coating probably the same as Rhino Lining.... http://www.gatorhyde.com/

Hi All,
Having had both GatorHyde and RhinoLining, I can say that they are similar but not exactly the same (at least here in US). The GatorHyde is not as soft as the RhinoLiner (probably by design, because the bedliner material is also designed to stop things from sliding around) and the outer surface appears to be a little tougher. The finish on mine is slightly shiny and textured versus the dull, spray-on finish on the RhinoLiner (but this also makes the RhinoLiner much easier to repair if needed).
This feature just happened to come with my boat when I found it, not really something that I was specifically looking for, but I do like the look better than rusty black paint. It should look good right up until the trailer falls apart...

In order to install gatorbyte on a galvanized trailer, you have to sand it (effectively removing the galvanized process because it doesn't adhere to zinc). So pretty much you took an amazing galvanized trailer that would last the life of the boat, sanded it so it will rust, and applied a plastic coating that will retain moisture and rot the trailer.

Planned obsolescence at it's finest.

Nup. The galvanizing has not been sanded on my trailer Ric. The gatorhyde is simple sprayed on top of it.

How do I know this? When I swapped my spare wheel mount over to the *correct* side for use here in Oz. A piece of the gatorhyde came off (and subsequently fixed) but the trailer had definately not been sanded. Galvanizing was 100% good and solid underneath.

The gatorhyde I patched it with sticks like a turd to a blanket - no need to sand!
