Thanks a lot for your hint.

Today morning I sent an email to ravonol to ask for the amount of zddp in their marine oil.
Now I got a response.

Their oil has a zinc between 1000 to 1200 ppm.
Oils for car engines much less.

What's about the quicksilver oil. I can't find any information about their content.

Anything over 1000ppm of zinc is acceptable for a flat tappet lifters.
What they've stated is still ordinary when compared to other performance oriented oils...
FWIW, I'm using a product that has 1600ppm of zinc. 8)

Which one is it? Maybe its possible to get.

Here in germany it's very difficult to get such products.
The amount of flat tapped engines is very low. So there is only a very small market for such oils.

I believe, in the states you've much more big V6 and V8 (old fashioned) engines so it should be easier to get such performance oriented oils.

In this regard, I live in a desert! :?

This April I visited the states first time.
And it was wonderful to hear the sound of V8 engines almost everywhere.

In germany its very rare.

Almost all non-catalyst specific oils that are NMMA Approved will be fine.
The Quicksilver 25w40 is a safe bet.
p.s. I'm in Australia, not America! :P

I see the flag, now.

Thanks for the info.
So I'll order the Quicksilver mineral.

Yeah, I found it.

You use penrite oils?

Yes.
Used to use the NMMA Approved Marine 25w40 and recently changed to the 10 Tenths Racing 15w50.
The racing is SN rated for cleanliness, but has stupid amounts of ZDDP and Boron.

For your interest, I compared several safety datasheets of different oils.

The actual Quicksilver Datasheet tells, that the amount of Zinc dialkyldithiophosphate (ZDDP) is between 0.1 to 1% ( 100ppm to 1000ppm) --> http://legacy.mercurymarine.com/media/mercury/msds_docs/003-1647QC-16pt5.pdf .
An older datasheet of Quicksilver from 2011 shows a ZDDP amount of less than 2 percent http://www.kelloggmarine.com/msds/MER%20-%20Quicksilver/4%20Cycle%20Engine%20Oil%2025W40.pdf. So I'll conclude, that they reduce the amount of ZDDP too.

After uncountable comparisons of datasheets, I'll try my own solution for the oil problem, because its not possible to get oils with more than 1200ppm for marine use in germany at all.

The Ravenol and Rowe Oils (german products) should have both round about 1100ppm. Thats the information of their customer care center.

So I'll try one of the two oils and add the Liqui Moly MoS2 additiv next season, to reduce the frictions.

What is your opinion.

Now I've noticed, that the topic oil is a never ending story with no general solutions.

One other point is how much zinc do you actually need? If the engine is being broken in (new engine) or has stiffer than usual valve springs, then the zinc issue is much more salient. If its a used engine with stock valve springs, and you have not worn out the cam or lifters at this point, the available marine oils should work fine. Even the gas/diesel rated oils have reduced zinc from what they were a few years back.

We discussed a lot about the right oil and the zinc content.

But how can I identify the cam design of my engine, without to open it?

If I look for spare parts for my 1995 OMC Cobra 4.3 GL (Serial: 1282549 | 432APNCA), I only get a roller camshaft.

If it is really true, our discussion was useless.
But in this context I learned a lot about oil, additives and camshafts!

You don't specifically need a marine oil!
Remember that ZDDP levels reduce as the oil is used. If you start with <1000ppm, you'll potentially have issues when it's old & fuel diluted!

Are there any local classic car/ muscle car mechanic shops (garages) near by?
Tried any German muscle car forums to see where they get lubricants from?
I'm confident there are plenty of options if you look in the right places.

Oh & this is what I now use. Overkill, but I'm happy to invest in the best:
