i put a keel guard on our horizon. i think it cost about 150 from bass pro and i got a scuff plate included in the packaging. the plate i got had a groove in it for it to slip around the bow eye. works pretty good for us. we go to Powell a lot so we beach it there whenever on sand. here in Colorado we rarely beach it but when we do it's nice to know the guard is there. I've heard people say it slows you down and or even can speed the boat up 1-2mph. i cannot notice a difference either way.
