I love good sounding music as much as the next guy. I'm constantly amazed and perplexed at the same time , how much money and time is spent on these systems. Priorities I guess.

When one person spends many, many thousands of dollars on a boat - I expect to have a premium experience - including the stereo. Like cars, there are very few manufacturers who offer a premium stereo package that actually performs like a truely "premium" package should.

I'm into my stereo upgrade the same price as if I had paid for the "premium" package from Four Winns. Personally, I think what I did blows away whatever Four Winns offers. Cincy even took it up a notch from what I did. I'm looking forward to seeing his install as I am sure he will be extremely pleased with the results!

This is just the same as someone who buys a car and opts to not pay 2k for the premium stereo package - and then upgrades it themselves. It's quite often that you pay more for lower grade parts when you think 'OEM'.

This is not the case of someone pimping out a Bayliner. This is a case of where we take a premium brand boat and added a truely premium stereo experience.

Heck, it's not like anyone is putting in 6 woofers, 5 amps, and 27 tweeters. When I say premium, I mean quality - not quantity (although both of those have distinct conceptual similarities to a certain point)

It's all relative... and yep... it's all priorities.

Funny thing is, I just have my stock ford stuff in my truck and I don't even have a fancy home theater system or movie room in my house. My ex-wife does
But on my boat I just really wanted a high end system that not only sounded great but also looked great. I can't even begin to count the hours I spend on my boat considering I put around 100-150 on the motor per year. Plus, the new toy really makes me fall in love with my boat all over again especially after I almost divorced it this winter.

Looks like I will be helping to prove that theory this summer.

That system should sound really good, I run JL Audio in my truck, no comparison in quality of sound.

I'am dissapointed with the sound system in my SS, might try relocating the subwoofer.

Update. Only had a couple hours today but i banged out the sub install, cut the two rear holes and prepped the front. Also spent some time zip tying and tidying up wires. So far its coming along GREAT! should finish the install tomorrow and can't wait to tune it.

No additional cutting. Just new pilot holes.

Image

Rear cut out. Cougar, I realized a bonus for having that extra foot or so in the 260 - my speaker won't hit the cooler! ;)

Image

Its interesting to note on the fronts that the original cutouts weren't in the precise location on both sides. I adjusted the new holes to fix that. Double bonus, only one of the three tweeter holes (the small screw one) will need to be patched. The other two are used/covered all the way around.

Cincy!!! NICE WORK MAN!

Great to see that the cooler won't be an issue... and as for that one tweeter hole - a little patch kit should take care of that no problem!

Lookin' great! I do like those new grills...

Keep the pics coming!

Don't have to say how much I totally agree with your attitudes on the upgrades Cougar and Cincy. I haven't bothered with my latest vehicles - the VW and GMC optioned out with adequate stuff for an enclosed space, but It was a drag not being able to enjoy some music at cruise on the water in my past water toys. I really wanted to be sure I had everything I wanted in this one. Even if it is sparingly used. Really love the way you upgraded and can't wait to dupe it.

Thanks fellas. Painstaking work but its all a hobby to me anyway. My neighbors think I'm crazy because I've been in my boat almost every night for over a week. But I love it. Wait until you see the amp install. I think that will be a serious "wow factor".

I do love those new grills too BUT 2 things, 1) I'm afraid the cones will get dirtier because of the open spaces and 2) the grills don't come off unless you take the speaker mounting screws out! The screws holding them on is what mounts them too. That makes No.1 more problematic because you will have to remove the speaker just to remove the grilll and wipe it down. Doing that alot would seem to make the mounting holes week.

BTW, for anyone cutting fiberglass like this I would highly recommend a rotozip. It was a piece of cake with a milling bit. Loud and dusty but fairly quick and smooth.

Hey Cincy - I'm not sure how your old stereo was, but when you're rockin' down the lake at 45mph and you can hear your stereo like you are standing still. That's when you know you did the right thing!

Blessed -- DO IT! :D

I just don't see how anyone could regret spending the extra dough. There's just something about boats and music that were meant to be.

My old system with the dual amps wasn't bad at all. But it was strained at the upper end and some of the music just never sounded right because it was trying to hard to produce volume. I'm quite convinced this will be a major improvement. I wonder what a youtube clip would sound like if i recorded it?

when it comes to the boat, there's very little regret in spending money on it. otherwise, i'd probably have sold it as soon as gas went to $2.50 a gallon. Seems like every time i go to the store its 20 bucks here 20 bucks there on stuff for the boat.

Sorry, did not mean to say what you guys are doing with stereo upgrades is a waste of money. I am obviously in a different situation than you, and just have a more conservative outlook on needed vs. wanted boat improvements. IF I could have killer stereo's like you guys do, then I probably would. I just can't. That's all. Keep up the great work.

Cap'n- I didn't take it any other way so no worries. Thanks for the compliments. After I get this installed and my new carpeting you won't see my name showing up in the "modification" or "improvement" threads for quite awhile!! ;)
