Finding the sweet spot on trailer depth is also key. If it's not just right you're not getting it on the trailer.
This is what we tend to do also... As for the trailer in the water I tend to just burry all the bunks so that they are all under water and it seems to work fine for me ... I am able to walk the boat up with a rope , hook up the strap and winch it all the way up ......
I will say our first 5 times out we had the same problems getting the boat on , and getting it on straight .. Hope you figure it out !!!!
