this post has made me question my trailering technique. I usually putter up to the trailer and then when it stops I bring it snuggly up against the rollers using the motor. I haven't tried, but I really don't think I could wench it all the way up there. I think we discussed this some in one of the other posts, but how is everyone else doing it?

Definitely drive-on. With the Four Winns trailers with side guide bunks, it's so easy to just drive it on. Only need a helper to let ya know when the bow eye is in line with the rollers. Just drive it over the trailer (typically, just the forward tops of the fenders above water), and the side bunks keep it in line as you line up on the bow eye rollers. Once yer a foot or two away, and you have the signal that you're straight on .... drive it home.

The trailer for the 268 does not have side guide bunks.. I'm going to have to build some (mimic the one that were on the trailer for the 245 Sundowner). If there is any wind or current, I'll have a hard time keeping the rear centered over the trailer.

Ok good, that makes me feel better. I have found that when the fender wells on the trailer break the water surface this is a perfect depth for both loading and unloading. It takes just a little effort by the motor to take it off the trailer as well as getting it snug against the front rollers putting it back on. Putting it back on does take a bit more effort by the motor, but if I put the trailer any deeper (as I found by experience) it bounces off the rollers without the bunks grabbing hold and slowing it down. Mind you I'm at idle or less on approach.

We back the trailer in so the rear bunks are most of the way under the water then the wife drives it up until the hull just touch the front bunks then I hook up the winch cable and winch it the rest of the way up. Really no effort to winch it up and I don't have to worry about her going to fast up on the trailer and damageing something. Just make sure no one is in the bow of the boat.
