I have a Mercruiser and had a smart craft display put in at the dealer. Gives you gal/hr usage, water temp, water psi, oil temp, volts, and the most hepful feature gallons used. Very accurate. I go and fill up and it is almost always what the computer told me I had used. About $300 installed.

The 240 has a 58 gallon tank and that's what mine needs to fill from empty. As with most gauges, though, it's tough to tell how much remains.

Even after my above posts, I read the placard on the fuel tank.... 40 gal.... I wonder where that extra 10 gal is stored?

To eliminate some of the mystery, a check over Labor Day Weekend revealed a plate on the gas tank indicating the capacity to be 50 gallons. The only thing I can think of to explain my ability to run out of gas, but only get 38 gallons of gas or so in the tank is that foaming must have accounted for that empty space in the tank. I don't know how else to explain this one.
