Not very familar with VP yet. Where is the impellar on the VP? On my old OMC it was in the outdrive and very easy to replace. Never mind I found my answer.

On mine - it is below water pump on front of engine, I can change now in 15 minutes - and I do replace yearly. cheap insurance in my opinion. The only thing I have Phil Dill complete is major or warranty work. I do need to get the alignment done and I think FW dealer is only place to get done - I think.

If you are here in Texas, since our winter is so short and mild, winterizing for me is draining the water out of engine block, water pump etc., shoot some fogging spray in, crank a few times and I am done. I do drag it home every 3-4 weeks and charge the batteries, check tires - 303 said tires and drag back to storage.

Summerize? put all plugs back in block and risers, change impeller, hook up to water hose and crank her up. that's it. I do change oil and outdrive oil yearly. as well as fuild checks lubing needed areas and general mainatnce duing the year.

I'm the sameway, most of the time I dont even fog. Lake Park down the road from Phil can align it for half the price. But he books up fast and dosent have a yard to store a boat so it in and out that same day.

I was told that fogging oil can be bad for injectors for those of us with EFI. I always fogged my old engine, but no this one. Heard fogging can clog injectors.

Joe - do you have any local source for the parts, or are you just buying from Phil Dill?

I have made up my mind that I am going to change it myself. All the fluids are done, so thats pretty much all I need to do I suppose. I do need an alignment, so I suppose I should call Lake Park and see if I can get in.

Also, dont Volvos need special shapped muffs to run on the hose?

I use the same muffs on mine that I used on my OMC and they work just fine.

I do need to get the alignment done and I think FW dealer is only place to get done - I think.

For the alignment, what you can do is get an alignment tool (basically the same tool works for Merc, Volvo and OMC Cobra), Sierra makes one, and check it yourself. Basically what you do is put grease on the end part of the tool, and slide it through the gimble bearing, and then into the coupler. Once you get the gimble bearing in the right position (you will find that it 'gimbles' slightly, up, down, left, right) then the tool should slide into the coupler easily. You then pull it out and look at the pattern the splines from the coupler made in the grease. If it's even all the way around, the alignment is OK and nothing needs to be done. If not, then you take it to them and let them align it. They may have to raise or lower the engine slightly. This is to maximize the lifespan of the coupler which will fail prematurely if it's not aligned right. I check mine each year and have not had to change it yet. On a newer boat if it was set right to begin with, I bet it's fine. It only changes if there is rot in an engine mount stringer or the rubber mounts deteriorate and let the engine sit a little lower. Both unlikely on the boats you guys have.

I use boaters World West Marine or e-bay for my parts, not the dealer. I dont use muffs I use the lake. But you do have a fresh water input on your motor, its the one with a blue cap.

I use Marinepartsexpress.com for my parts. They have great part drawings, good pricing for OEM parts. I am always a fan of using OEM parts on anything I own if I can get it for a decent price. In fact I just got my Dist. cap and rotor in today from them. They even sent me a new VP key chain floaty free. Spend over $100.00 and shipping is free. I always try to make sure I have enough to order to get free shipping. When I am short it never hurts to have extra oil or filters on hand.

With all the DFW group members here we should do a shade tree day? Just kidding - at min we should all get together on one of the local lakes for a party. Lewisville? Will start a new thread, for a FW-DFW gathering.

Lewisville is only about what 1500 miles from me? Don't think I'll make it.

Ok....help me out here guys...

In my package of plugs the dealer left me....there were 4 blue plastic plugs and 4 hose clamps. I got the hose clamps and proper hoses back on and I was able to get 2 of the 4 plastic blue plugs on. They are the ones that go in the bottom of the intake manifolds.

Where do the other 2 go?

On the back side of the engine towards the transom. Can't remember if they go in the block or in the manifolds, but they are kinda hard to get at let alone see them.
