thanx guys- my dist. is on the front of the engine so i guess it's a ford 302? it has a carb. not fuel injected so was this vapor lockup also a problem for this setup too? i'm still waiting for my repair manual (due this week i hope!) - then i can go and round up some local auto parts for tuning it up .- bk

I always had good luck with Napa for marine ignition parts. At least my local Napa even has marine applicaation books.

The vapor-lock was only a problem with the Ford version EFI units. The carb version had no reservoir to catch fuel and let it boil.

Make sure the parts store doesn't sell you an automotive type distributor cap. They are vented and you need a sealed cap. If they do, don't worry, they only burn to the waterline.

wow ! sure don't want to chance that! so, the marine version is the only way to go !?! do things like oil/fuel filters matter? other than going with brand names? another question i have is the lack of a trim? fin (below the outdrive cavitation plate)? is see some omc cobra drives have it-some don't. my old mercruiser used it to compensate for steering wander i think. ideas??
