Yes, that's one of the big reasons. Cruising around in an underpowered boat is better than cruising on the couch, but as everyone has said, get the most engine you can afford.

For me it was about money. I could afford a FW with a 3.0L or a Grew or Tahoe with a 4.3L. Looking at the fit and finish and taking in account resale value I felt that I would sacrifice some power and drive a nicer boat.

I've got to admit I have no problem at all with the power of the V6 - tops out at 50 mph, pulls boards, skiiers, tubes etc. all without a problem. I think bangs per buck makes the V6 a reasonable proposition. If however you have the cash to splash, then go with a V8.
