UPDATE:

So I bought a Solas Stainless and went from the 19 pitch to a 17 and up a .25 in diameter.Let me tell you, it feels like a new boat. Not only did I pick up a lot of bottom end I picked up top end too! On GPS I'm hitting 44 mph @ 4200 rpm and that is with the drive all the way down.

I was talking to a boat mechanic and he said from the factory the gear ratios are different on boats depending on factors such as geographic area etc... He said if your boat is geared wrong and your pitch is too high, going down can give you more top end as your motor doesnt have the capability to turn a high pitch to its capacity. So it turns out he was right and I feel like I have a new boat.

i only bring this up from personal experience, but i think your problem is all in altitude (like your boat mechanic was stating). i live in denver and have a 19" prop. even when at Powell (3633' when i was there this year) i don't think i'm gettin the WOT my setup is calilng for. i do get the best performance there but feel she has more in her.

i also want to drop to a 17". i boat anywhere from 5300 - 8500 feet (not counting powell). it's amazing what altitude will do to a motor. like my sleds for instance. in denver my sled runs like a stripped ass ape. get it up to 10k and it's another story.

i'm glad to hear the 17 worked out cause i've been waiting for the cash flow to be right to drop our 19 down to a 17 and i'm sure i'll get the same results.

bye the way what altitude are you at out of curiousity?

Hellasno, we bought this boat brand new and I bought it from my Dad who lives in So Cal this summer. This is the first year it's ever been run at an altitude higher than Lake Mead. It came from the dealer with a 19 stainless and from day one at sea level was not as powerful as it was this weekend 12-13 years later with the new 17 stainless. This year we've spent time on two lakes. One at 7600 feet and the other 6200 feet.
