What might I be looking at as the cause for this?

Welcome to the forum Marty, Unfortunately your request won't get much attention here since you jumped on a previous topic being discussed. This is the way to start your own topic it's very easy. Click on Board Index on the upper left from there it will send you to the lobby, there you pick a topic or a specific model, click new topic and you start your own new topic and it goes to the top of the list of topics being discussed so you can get the most attention. As far as my previous issues with my starter it sounds just like what happened to my boat, I was a little too liberal with the waterhose and it burned out the solenoid but I replaced the whole thing. Good luck and if your going to try to remove those screws put some breakfree or similar product and let it sit for a day or so.
