I also have a Skylon tower it is the swoop X-treme tower, and love it. This tower is extremely rigid espc. when you add the bat racks that hold your boards. Ryan @ winnisquam also made a little mod so the factory bimini would work. I also get many compliments on how it looks on my boat.

I use the heck out of my factory installed tower and integral bimini top (XTP/Monster). My bimini is almost always up, and doesn't flap even running nearly flat out (<45 mph according to the manual). The only issues I've had are with the mounting. The fiberglass has been getting cracks, but FW has been fixing them under warranty. Originally, mine came with mountings for 4 wakeboards. I replaced one set with a kneeboard mount (monstertower.com). In the boat I keep 3 tubes, 2 wakeboards, the kneeboard and a set of skis. All stored neatly away!

Hope that helps!

I like the horizontal tube that follows the windshield that the exact fit manufacturers produce. I'm guessing FW doesn't fabricate towers, it contracts those out.

We like everything about the S.S. arch on our 220SS, but find the two part Bimini top to be a more complicated unit than a one piece top to put up and store. The covered Bimini doesn't flap very bad even at full speed.

I am embarrassed to say this but I have yet to purchase a wakeboard tower. Are there any deals out there for a H240. I like the the towers that follow the lines a the windshield. Any suggestions short of Ryan at Winnisquam Marine...I live in southern California an I'm not towing any further than Lake Powell, Utah! LOL

I purchased this one from Sampson, primarily because I liked the way it follows the lines of the boat.

They are located out your way (though I did have it installed by Winnisquam  )

This is the outfit that my FW dealer recommended:

http://www.pacificyachttowers.com/gallery/tow-arch.html

They are in San Marcos, CA. Not sure that I love the look of the tower, but to each their own....it does look better on some boats in the gallery section.

I've got a factory FW Wakeboard Tower, but have never folded it down. I've noticed that there are four plastic-handled screws that hold the whole unit together, but have not attempted to fold it yet.

With winter approaching, is there a "checklist" of steps to complete to safely fold it down? Does it fold fowards or backwards?

Four Winns towers fold forward. Just remove the bottom knob on each side and it will move for you. You might want to get some padding for where it will lay against the bow.

It actually appears as I look at photos that the bottom knob will completely dis-connect the rear "legs" from the permanently mounted portion. I assumed that if the top knobs were pulled, the the tower would fold backwards (the rear legs would buckle upon itself, allowing the front legs to fall backwards).

Does this make any sense? My choice of words is probably confusing...

I have the factory installed tower and integral bimini top that was made by Extreme Tower Products - XTP/Monster Tower. I realized this when looking at the back of the tower speaker "cans" there is XTP engraved on it. I ordered the Tower mirror from Monster Tower after calling XTP and being referred to Monster. I occasionally run my 2006 H 240 at top speed, 45 to low 50s, leave the bimini open (it's never been closed, actually) with no problems. XTP used to advertise that they made the factory towers for a lot of brands like Malibu, FW, plus many other high end boats. I have never taken my tower down because I was advised by the service dept that it will scratch the fiberglass.
Conclusion-really happy with XTP tower, bimini, and mirror.

You are correct that removing the bottom knobs will completely dis-connect the rear legs from the rail. It will then fold forward. The upper knobs on the rear legs are also supported by a set of allen bolts that would have to be removed in addition to removing the know. I'm not sure why they used a knob here rather than two sets of allen bolts. The overall setup kind of confuses me. In looking at this, if you had 9' doors on your storage unit, you would most likely have to remove the short section of the leg (held on by upper knob & allen bolts). Fortunately, I have 10' doors and just remove the bottom knobs and fold forward to store in my unit. I too was hoping it could fold backward. I'm no engineer, but it looks like they missed a couple of items that could have made these more user friendly to fold to the rear.

When folding the tower on my H260 forward, it would be a two person job if I weren't 6'8". I can do it by myself, but I have to stretch. Also, I took an 10' 2X6 I had laying around and wrapped it in carpet. I then lay this carpeted 2X6 across my bow, then set the tower on that. I wouldn't travel with it like this. This contraption is purely for storage. If you lay the tower in the bow, it will actually rest on the seats and side cushions. I could see this breaking them down over time and causing rips & tears, so I immediately looked for something to rest it on instead of the seats. I think a 2X4 would work as the top really isn't that heavy, but I had a left over 2X6 handy from a recent project. The whole setup is just plain akward to put up & down.

Here is a picture of the unit folded down (without the 2X6 across the bow).

Thanks for the tips. I actually keep our FW stored outside (which I absolutley hate), but even our triple car garage is too short with standard doors, not long enough, etc to fit a 21' boat with trailer. I just wondered if I should drop the tower during the winter or leave it standing.

Now that I think about it, though, I can't come up with a good reason to drop the tower. We live in Colorado, where we get a minimal amount of snow and quite a bit of winter wind...but nothing that I would think could damage the tower.

The stainless reverse arch is easy to fold down and the fwd legs rotate inwards towards the rear legs so the tower lays flat towards the rear of the boat. My height restrictions of getting it in the garage forced me to fold towards the rear of the boat instead of forward. The boat goes inside my third car garage (oversized) with a couple inches to spare
