yrless11,

I agree about having a list. I'm in the process of doing that now. I was told to jack the trailer up an spend the tires. If the spin smoothly without any noise or grinding sound then the bearings should be fine then it's a matter of dealing with the tires and making sure they are not dry rotted. Is that a reasonable test for the bearings? Also, since I'm new to this, what kind of grease should I get for the bearings?

I'm willing to do a little work to get it to the marina/mechanic, he's only about 3 miles from where the boat is now.

Thanks

I'd advise you to be cautious about this one....first of all it's 16 years old...some of the floor was replaced and that means there was rot...and where there is some rot...there is usually more...check the rest of the deck very carefully...and around the ski locker....grab the end of the lower unit and try to flex it up and down..look at the tramsom when you do that to see if it's flexing...if the wood rots in the transom it's a huge job....
And another caution....it's an OMC boat...many mechanics don't work on OMCs at all and not that many really know how to adjust the shift cable on the Cobra...I know I have one and I'm lucky that I have a great OMC mechanic here in Long Island...mine shifts great...better than some much newer boats....
And finally...some of the parts for the fuel injected engines are not generic and may be hard to find (like ECM units...ignition modules...) I'd take the engine #....go on the doug russell parts website...and look to see how many parts are listed as NLA...(No Longer Available)...if it's major stuff that you can't get...forget this boat no matter how cheap it is...

I agree with Lou....OMC's are scary at best. I will never own anything but mercruiser....you can get parts everywhere and they are pretty easy to work on.....Plus as an added bonus, they are a pretty black... :)

Good luck.
