well i do run in on purpose when doing water sports but yeah sometimes i just flat out forget it, i guess if they are cheap then it is worth the cooling and safety. i did find a place that sells a intake/4barrel/flame arester kit that is proven to add 60hp bringing the 305 to 280hp, thats a huge gain and i think it is about 600 if i am remembering right

Good point! Although all I've had went noisy to the point where the whine became intolerable, haven't kept a noisy one long enough to fail completely.
