Are you breaking it in per the manual?

We were out today on Lewisville. There is a cove just north of the new bridge that we go hand in. We had 6 or 7 boats in there tied together. Feel free to swing by and say hi if you see us in there. We are there most Sundays.

will do we were over in that area yesterday, we put the boat in a slip over at cottowood creek marina.

I honestly didn't know there was a special way to break it in. What exactly are we supposed to be doing?

I live in Little Elm, but we trailer ours.

There should be a section on this in the manual - I don't remember the exact details, but basically for the first 20 hours - no WOT, vary the speed frequently, no pulling of skiers/tubers/etc. It's the engine that is supposed to be broke in.

Now, the degree to which people adhere to this varies greatly - I pulled a tube once or twice once we got past ~15 hours, for example - but it's probably something everyone should at least be aware of.

As to breaking it in, I was told the most important thing was take it easy on running Wide open and constantly vary your speed. No cruising down the lake at one speed. Mix it up.

Just to clarify, running at WOT during the break-in period is OK for short bursts only followed by cool-down periods. But yes, varying the RPM's is a good thing to do as well because it helps to set the piston rings. I just wrapped-up our break-in period and followed Volvo Penta's recommendations to a "T", which included a few WOT bursts. The motor even used a little oil but that is normal during the break-in period. Good luck and read the owners manual then ask questions to this forum if you get confused. We are here to help!
