I have the SL262 - it's definitely a big, roomy boat. I'm not much for the graphics packages on these, but the boat itself is great. MSRP keeps going up - but you can already get decent deals on used now. Ask me how I know.........

ok how? haha

I have mine listed for mid $50s with every option except windshield wipers - that's less than my dealer is asking for the SL 222s and SL 242s comparably equipped. Less than 50 hours and looks brand new......I haven't been bending over backwards to sell it, but it's available. :)

wow leftlane that sounds like a sweet price specially compared to what I've seen the MSRP prices on them. your color scheme is my next fav other than the graphic ones... to bad I'm not in the market or i'd be headed to TX.

i assume your not selling do to not liking it?

No, I love the boat itself. What I overestimated is how much we would use it and how much free time we'd have on the weekends. My kids have an unreal schedule between school and sports, and all we do is shuttle from one practice or game to the next. There have been entire months when we haven't made it to the lake, and it's so freakin' expensive to keep it in a slip here that I'm just pissing money away.

For the money I don't think you can get a better boat - it has everything, and I've never felt a boat accelerate as smoothly as this one. It won't kill me if I keep it since it's paid in full, but it wouldn't break my heart to go without a boat for a while either.

BTW - MSRP for the 2009 equipped like mine is now $103k.

You better get with TPWD they still have US Bank listed as your lienholder.

Yeah - the payoff just happened this week, so I still have to get the title and remove the lienholder. BTW - how do you know that?

The SL series is supposed to stand for Sport and Luxury, but, in reality, it is the initials of Steve Lumpe, the long time boat designer for Cobalt that Four Winns hired to design boats. Unfortunately, Steve passed away suddenly before the first SL series rolled out of production. However, his design team finished it and brought them to market.

Hmmm, the designer for the SL262 you mention is not listed on the copyright documentation filed in 2008. They list the Chief Engineer at Four Winns and Pete Granata as designers.
The original copyright documentation can be seen in this PDF.
http://www.copyright.gov/vessels/regs/dvh0393.pdf

I believe Pete is alive and well. He is one of the nations foremost recreational boat designers and President of MDRA (Marine Designers Resource Alliance) He also designed the X-Star boats for Mastercraft, among others.

Steve Lumpe was the director of engineering for Cobalt Boats, and he may have had some influence on the SL design, but not sure how much. Here is one of the concept boats Steve helped design for Cobalt back in 2002.

Lumpe died before the boat even got out of the draft room.

Yep, he passed away in January of 2007. I figured they would give him some credit on the copyright, but I guess not.

My boat should command a premium then - there will never be another boat designed (in reality or concept) by Steve Lumpe. That has to be worth at least an extra $5k! :P
