Great looking mount! Any idea how the Catalina would do with the rail mounts on the bow grab rails of the 260?

Won't fit. The mounts don't fit because the rails sit below the topsides to give the boat a cleaner look. Even if the mounts did fit the grill would be too close to the vinyl of the seats and the gel coat for my comfort.

Thanks Tennja, kinda had that feeling. I was planning on making an extension to the undermount to set the bbq pretty much over the water, but if the rail attachments won't fit it's a moot point. Any other suggestions on attaching the catalina on the 260 other than the pole mount on the stern like you did?

At one point I believe there was a factory option for a flush mount rod holder. I think that with Magma rod holder mount would be the next best option but I have never seen it in person to see if it would truly work or not.

Trust me I have looked in to many options but I think the swim platform mount is the best. Slman had a custom mount made for his sl262 that looked really nice too. Search his posts if you have some fabrication skills the sky is the limit.

tennja. Great way of mounting the grill.
only one question is on my mind, how will it work (or not) when the water is nog calm and easy?
on my boating location mostly there is some wind and thus waves on the water.

Did not sow the picture over here yet because I'm afraid that I need to order it directly :)

Nick,

Not sure I can answer with experience as we boat on mostly inland lakes and tend be in a secluded cove when anchored and using the grill. But as far as the grill and grill mount go I have no worries that it could handle some chop. The grill base snaps on to the pole and the pole is threaded into the base. I think severe rocking could put a strain on the base due to lever action of the setup. It won't be going overboard any time soon, but the food and utensils could be another story in rough waters.

With my set up I can sit on my sunpad and cook so there is some relative protection from me falling into/on the grill. I also think that with this set up being on the stern you will have some protection from the wave action provide by the natural flow of water around the bow of the boat. That is if you are anchored from the bow. Hope that answers your question.

Hey Tennja, thanks for sharing your setup. I've purchased a Catalina myself, and I'm going to do a very similar setup on my F224. Interesting point about trapping water. Did you do anything to seal the holes you made in the deck? I'm thinking about water seeping into it and causing delamination.

Also, as a way to let the water out, did you think about sanding or carving some grooves in the base to make a little space? Or, did you consider some nylon or stainless washers to use as spacers to give it just a little drain space? I'm thinking of the washers as an option, or some kind of shallow spacer ring...

Sounder,

The swim platform as I discovered on my boat is fiberglass over plywood. The base needs 7 or 8 screws to hold it in place. As standard procedure I made very sure those were filled with a marine sealant before putting the screws in place. I also used the sealant on the underside of the base. I put a ring around the inner circle where the post screws in and the outer circle of the base, as well as around the screw holes in the base.

The water only gets trapped in the inner ring of the base. By way I have it sealed I am fairly confident that no water gets under the base and therefore none reaches the screws either. I would be afraid to make a channel for water to pass through inevitably that would get clogged with debris and possibly trap water under the base where I couldn't see it or have any means of getting it out. And by which it might find away into my swim platform.

I notice the water particularly after I wash it not really with normal use. It's not that big of a deal I just need to remember to wipe it out before I snap the platform mat down.
