Oh totally understand that one. Best of luck on locating something that fits the budget as well as keeps you on the water without any additional hassles !

If you buy used, have it surveyed to gauge the real condition of everything. If you can get service records, you'll know where you stand for maintenance. Otherwise I would suggest having things like tune ups, impeller replacement, etc done to have a fresh start.

You may also get lucky and find an owner throwing in all of the safety and watersports stuff.

Decent price on a 3.0L 2010 H180 w/sunsport seating at local dealer, that I have no affiliation with, whatsoever.

Though I've only bought the one boat new, they did "throw-in" all the neccesary safety items (jackets, throwables, whistle, etc). It's at least worth asking the dealer if you are close to making an offer. Unfortunatly an 18-19 ft boat doesn't give them that much profit, therefore they don't have too much leeway to break-even.... just what I've been told, I'm no salesman.

Thanks but I'm looking for more power, I'm affraid the 3.0L won't be enough with 5 or 6 people in it. Also 18 might be a bit on the small side. I was thinking either 20 ft or 19 with a swim deck and 4.3L or 5.0L.

Don't take this the wrong way but... If you don't have $5K cash for incidentals I would look at financing a brand new or 1 year old boat. Sh$t happens even if boats are surveyed, test drove etc... A new outdrive will run you atleast $2K hell even a water pump will cost $400 and since you will have the boating bug you will pay anything to get back on the water and use your investment.

Go sit down and talk to a dealer about a H200 with 5.0 and see what they have to offer. Remember if you buy stateside that you will have to pay the PST & GST plus RIV on the trailer at the border.

Local Craigslist. Something new there everyday. Being a Michigan made boat, there are quite a few Four Winns boats for sale here.

Any particular areas you suggest searching? I'm sort of familiar with MI since I went to school in Windsor, but don't know where the honey holes for boats may be.

The entire state is loaded with them, just search, they are easy to find.

Found a 2008 H180 sunsport seats volvo 4.3l with bimini, bow and cockpit covers for $13K. not quite the size I want but for the price I'm going to make that compromise. Now to find an accredited surveyor.

Just re-listed Saturday. The same local guy had it listed in the fall and it did not sell.

Yep that's the ad. You think there's something suspicious about it? or something that I should be extra cautious about?

Nope, used on Silver Lake mostly, should be a fine boat. If you need a good surveyor in W. Michigan, send me a PM.
The surveyor I am currently using is busy this week, but he is good and about 30 miles away from Mears. He could drive there and survey everything but the engine in about 45 minutes. $15 per foot is the going rate these days, plus some $'s for travel. The engine, you will have to hire someone else for the mechanical part of the survey. Most marine surveyors do not do both. I would suggest Hall's in Muskegon for that.

Just my opinion, but on a boat that size, I would not have it surveyed. It's so easy to inspect yourself, and havethe seller run it on muffs, or drop it in the lake for a sea trial. Anything wrong with an H180 would be obvious after a visual inspection and sea trial. But, sometimes the peace of mind knowing it was inspected by a pro is worth it. Your choice.
