I'd have to say honestly they're about the same in overall brightness. The LED's of course have more of the "LED look." The incandescent shows a single, vertical sliver of light (obviously since it's a vertically mounted festoon bulb) whereas the LED unit's pattern is wider, and the 3 LED's on each side, to my eye, provide the same amount of light as the incandescent.

One difference - after 15 minutes of running side by side, the top of the LED unit (without the cover installed) is 79F. The top of the incandescent Perko is 134F and still climbing.

I suck at taking pictures of lights in the dark, but here's an attempt:

This comparison made me realize, the Perko honestly is brighter than I thought it was. I don't think I've ever seen it on at eye level before, which makes a big difference.

Anybody wanna buy a new LED bow light... cheap?

This is what I hate about storing the boat an hour away. I can't measure things before buying. Turns out, the light is too long (front to back) and overhangs on the front.

For anyone interested in the look of this particular light, here it is:

This is probably destined for eBay now, since just about anyone here would have the same issue, and it can't be returned. But I'll ship it to anyone interested for $30.

Wow! Mike that's too bad. It was a viable upgrade....

Slap a big gob of 5200 under it, smooth out and you're good to go

Nobody will see it when you're doing 40+ across the water or when people are speeding by your driveway or when it's locked up in the darkness of your storage locker.....

Nothing a Dremel tool couldn't fix. If a guy can turn his Four Winns into something straight out of the A-Team, Mike can surely get the light to fit.

 indeed...

Actually, I have to say that with that cover sitting in position on the boat, I'm back to not liking the look much anyway. At this point I just don't think the right LED bow light has been invented yet that I'm going to be happy with. Oh, well - I'll keep a spare bulb in the boat. Someday my light will come...

Good choice Mike, I have to say this is an upgrade that I want to do so I was following this thread but, when I saw the light my first thought was . Needless to say I don't really like the looks of it either. But I didn't want to offend.

I don't understand why Perko doesn't have more LED choices. I would like a LED stern light as well but at last check there was not a simple replacement.

What about an LED replacement?

I have to agree that I am not a huge fan of the looks of the new light. I like the traditional look of the current light. Why can't you return the light?

They come on a blister card which of course is cut open. I had also already changed the connectors on the leads. No biggie, I got a good deal on it. Somebody will get some use out of it at some point.

That's what I had hoped to do all along, but the only LED festoon replacements I can find are either too directional, might rotate in the light, or both.
