Towed my H190 from Illinois to Florida last summer when I moved. Started out with an expensive towing cover but after 300 miles when I stopped for fuel, found that the tie down straps had caused a few blackish rash spots in the gelcoat and they had acutally put cuts in the rubber rub rail insert from the strap edges.  Replaced with the cockpit and bow covers and had no further problems. I still get pissed when I see the "reminders" left by the towing cover. Rash spots will not come out without sanding and recoating, so I choose to leave them until I have something larger to justify going into gelcoat. :?

I've gotten those before. Try using 3M Marine Restorer and Wax. I use it all the time and the black rash comes right off! It's also great for getting any little "scuff" marks off the gelcoat.

You might also try any type of rubbing compound.

i tow ours everywhere with the mooring covers and never had any issues. i go to Lake Powell every year and that's 8 hours one way and speeds up to 80 mph with no signs of wear to the boat or seats just the cover itself over the years.

the wife and i use the magic erasers all over the boat and it works WONDERS! we also just got some meguiars vinyl treatment which took out even more stains/residue than the magic eraser did. now we just keep a magic eraser on board at all times to get out stains immediately if need be.

What mooring cover do you have? Ours has finally hit its last leg and need a good replacement. We use ours for more of a storage cover than anything and are looking into getting one that protects the boat a little bit better.

I want to get the trailer cover that FW sells but just haven't been able to get a good picture of it and do not understand the support system well enough to go spending 700$.

Thanks

We bought the FW trailering cover and we love it. A lot of bones to shell out, but it fits perfect, doesn't rub and cinches down pretty tight with ratchets at the back. There are two vertical poles that each have straps that feed out to the cleats; two straps up front and two for the back. I am out of town on business but will take a few pics and post them soon. Next weekend we're towing the boat 500 miles to Park City to boat in the Jordanelle Reservoir (not a big place, but close to family) and I'll also update about how it does on the road. Currently we've done a few 1 - 1.5 hr trips and at 75 mph there is no flapping or movement.

I always tow any long distance with the trailering cover. The one time I decided not to use the cover, because the carpet was wet and I wanted it to dry out, my rear bench seat, snap on cushion flew out, but lucky for me a buddy was following behind me and saw it come out and stopped to pick it up. I have not had any chafing/marking issues. The tag on the cover says to remove the support system for towing and put it back under when not. This presents a problem. Due to the huge downforce I understand why they don't want you to use the supports while towing, but if you got somewhere and forgot to put the support system in and it rained you'd have a boat full of water, which is part of the reason you put a cover on it in the first place. Soooooooo, I think after this last trip I've worked out a compromise that works well. I leave the bow support poll in the down postion and the cockpit area poll in the up, this way water can't pool on the cover (the rear poll provides enough tenting action for the entire cover) but the downforce on the cover (majority or all of this is on the bow area) while towing, doesn't stretch/ruin the cover.
