When you said you bought a gauge kit, did it have a connector that plugged into the boat side connector for the old VDO or did you have to figure out the wires yourself?
My boat has the auto style gauges (it is a year or two before it was branded with the VDO name). It is still working fine but want to have a backup plan in case it goes bad. Four Winns sells a kit but I think it was around $500 but it includes all the gauges with a premade panel and wires.
I had to wire it all myself. its pretty straight foward. I used this link from cdi
http://www.cdielectronics.com/downloads ... nsDash.pdf one of the pages in that pdf had the wiring diagram for the factory gauges. It was just a matter of cutting the old vdo plug off and soldering it into the new gauges. The whole wiring aspect of it took about a hour. i was looking into the replacement panel for $500, but i just could bring myself into spending that kind of money. My whole setup was roughly $250 from start to finish. That saved me enough money to buy my dollies for moving the trailer around
