So what if I'm under 30 years old and paid $1600 for my boat and not big $$ like everyone else. Does that make me lesser of a person?
Ric, nobody cares that you're under 30 years old. And yes, you've provided some advice that is right and is backed up by mechanics (and me, for what that's worth). But you say you're here in part to "impart knowledge" when in fact you come across as though you believe you know it all and everyone else is just old and stupid. Some of the things you believe are wrong, you just don't understand yet.
The forum, since inception, has catered somewhat to new boaters. Many of them find their way here looking for advice on the countless issues confronting a first-time boat owner. When someone posts answers to those questions with the tone that I just described, it has the potential of causing problems for people. We must always remember too, that what is posted here stays here (hopefully) forever, waiting for newbies to come along and search for answers to their new questions.
What would be helpful in my opinion, would be to take more of a "this is what has worked for me" attitude, rather than "do this, or else you're wasting money no matter what any of those old stupid codgers think."
Agreed. Ric, you clearly know your stuff and we welcome the "young" vantage point. I'm somewhere between you (I was once 29 and divorced with a boat that helped me "date") and the old codgers (god, I love the word "codger"). Just that text rarely ever translates how you meant it, so just be cautious in how you state things. Maybe you can even help Cap'n out that he's rolling bowrider....

I hope that last remark doesn't get me thrown off this forum. Can't we all just get along.....
We like having all kinds of boaters here - unlike most boards we don't even make a big deal out of what brand of boat you own - but it all works on a basic premise, which is that everyone has things to learn, some more than others.
I hope you'll take this message in the spirit intended.
