Hey all congrats on all the SS owners !!!! We were so close to getting the yellow ..
We had our built and it was very cool because I called Four Winns durring the process for updates and they took the time to tell me it was getting the Gel Coat , or the interior was getting worked on , ,, was kind of cool to know that when I called they knew what boat was mine ...

I love ours ,,, We modified the stereo and added some bad Azz LED lights for night time chilling !!!

Great, thanks......is your sub the MTX 10"?

How does it sound?

Uhhhh... Yeah. I've played my radio exactly twice. The first time was to make sure all the electrical worked when I bought it. The second was to make sure my iPod cable worked as advertised. And, that's two more times than I've had my boat in the water. :(

OK, finally got mine back from getting the stickers and dash pad replaced. I added some pic's of my sub under the seat for those interested. just click the link in my signature, and you'll see.

I also picked up the LED cupholders..... be affraid... be VERY affraid!

Why yes, they are factory LED Cupholders..... from Harris pontoon boats

They're Electric Blue... I promise to get pic's as soon as they're installed.

LED's are the bomb. I replaced all my helm lights with them, all my trailer lights, and intend to change more of the interior ones as time goes on. The beauty of them is that for all practical purposes, they never burn out, generate no heat, and draw almost no current. All this, while being brighter. It's really a mystery to me why the manufacturers are using anything else.

In a boating application, though, it's important to consider their effect on night vision, if you boat at night (red's your friend).

The Harris site shows 'em! The only problem (not for me though) is they are only available in Blue. This should go great with the Black at night. I paid $31 each for 12V cupholders. The ones on the other site are all battery powered. I'm a control freak, what can I say!

For anyone else doing this, remember.... make sure they are NOT visible from outside the boat, where they could be mistaken as Nav/marker lights.

As far as night vision, color does not matter. It's only the brightness. Light blue actually has fewer bad effects in night vision than red. Many maps, charts, and text's have charachters in red (usually urgent too), which are not visible with red ambient lighting. Light Blue is much closer to white, and keeps the important information that may be red or green from being washed away. 4 years on a sub, and 10 years as a pilot ... I prefer using blue lights at night.

Walt - how are you going to wire those puppies up? Off of an accessory switch or along with the courtesy lights?

I dig those cupholders... Are they stainless and do they already have drain holes?

From Wikipedia (take it for what it's worth  ):

Quote:
In biological night vision, molecules of rhodopsin in the rods of the eye undergo a change in shape as light is absorbed by them. Rhodopsin is the chemical that allows night-vision, and is extremely sensitive to light. Exposed to white light, the pigment immediately bleaches, and it takes about 30 minutes to regenerate fully, but most of the adaptation occurs within the first five or ten minutes in the dark. Rhodopsin in the human rods is insensitive to the longer red wavelengths of light, so many people use red light to preserve night vision as it will not deplete the eye's rhodopsin stores in the rods and instead is viewed by the cones.

In my own informal (and very unscientific) experiments in a dark storage unit (no lights/door down/at night), when I was playing with the helm replacements I tried both blue LED's and red ones. To me there was an obvious difference in the effect of blue on my night vision as opposed to red. I actually liked the look of the blue a tad more, but went with the red based on that experiment. Table Rock at night is one of the darkest places I've ever seen, and I didn't want to make it any worse!

They have drain holes, not stainless but have the rings around the top. Due to the lack of avialable matching accessory switches I plan on wiring them to the Nav/anchor lights along with a set of white LEDs for the eng compartment (with a limit switch attached to the engine hatch). I have the factory white lights, as well as 2 sets of white rope lights for ctsy lighting. I do spend some time out at night.

Walt - I can't wait to see those all lit up.

Something to think about - for other people who might be interested.... Maybe Walt could organize a "group buy" on these things since he has the contact for getting them?

I know that for my 240... I would need 10 of those dang cupholders. 300+ for cupholders? How do I convince the wife of that one!!!

Could be a good midseason project though... that's for sure.

Walt - where are you planning to put the rope lighting? And are you going to switch out the stock ctsy light bulbs with LEDs as well?
