Yes I like it, some people would like a stylish sport boat with OB power instead of a more plain fishing style boat.
400 lbs less weight on the stern and not having to break your fingers and scrape your hands in that nasty hole of an engine compartment that FW gives you now. I am curious to see an actual breakdown of price of the sterndrive 180 vs the sterndrive OB....with the FI/Cat Converter engine...even if the OB is $1500 more, over about 4 years you'd start saving money on the maintenance (very little on an OB, winterizing, Etec winterizes itself)....I/O three hrs of crawling round the bilge...Etec you put the motor down, run it in self winterization mode and change the gear oil in the lower unit ,what could be easier....

How's about something like this ?

23 ft. LOA, up to 250HP outboard, 3300 lbs. dry, 2012 Model. Ton's of cockpit space and seating, price is reasonable for a new boat too.

Still a little too long and heavy for my liking.... Needs to fit comfortably in my garage while having only one axle....I think most 23 footers require dual axles, right?

Yes, probably a dually for that boat, plus not a true sport boat, but versatile and bigger than an 18 footer.

They do make a 20 footer that will take a 200hp O/B, but it looks more like a barge than a sport boat. :D

Keep your eyes open for Monterey's new 19-20 foot outboard boat (first ever for them) It comes stock with a 150 HP
Mercury 4-stroke, but I have not seen specs on max HP yet. There are a few facebook pics on the web of it. They
are calling it the 197 FSX. Honestly, it is a sharp looking boat, and might be closer to what you are looking for.

That ole '89 is my old boat with an OB....interesting seats there, I bet the deck rotted and they fixed it (?) and replaced the carpet and put in cheap seats. FWs of that vintage had beautiful expensive looking captain's seats, like they came out of a 70s Cadillac....

That new 197 Monterey is pretty darn sharp!!! Not a big fan of the red graphic on the side with a large black stripe just above the rub rails but I'm sure they will offer different color schemes... I'm definitely interested now!!! Keep me posted when you see more pics and specs!

I agree on the color scheme of the one that is being shown. Not my cup of tea either. Also, that is the FSX model, blinged up for watersports.
The FS model does not have so much of the graphics. They also make a Fish n' Ski version.
It will be at the Ft. Lauderdale show in October, so by then it should be up on their website. Four Winns will also have their new H180 and RS outboards at the show.

Does anyone know the MAX hp for a 20 footer with an OB motor? If I'm gonna downsize from a 22' I/O, it better go fast....REALLY FAST!!! Gotta feed my need for speed!!!

I like Campion boats. Good find RR.

The Checkmate Pulsare 2000 BRX with Merc 250 hits low 80's for top speed.

Image

Or if you really need speed, the Checkmate 2100 Pulsare with a Yammie Optimax 300 will hit 88 mph !

Checkmate boats are VERY popular around here I know two people that have one. The small OB ones like you pictured. Stupid fast and stupid cheap used. Absolutely useless for anything except going fast on smooth water. My buddy Jason had to get his towed back to the dock when a small wave swamped his this summer on the river (maybe 1-2ft tops).
