You might also consider pulling off the thermostat housing and see if the missing bits are in there....

I agree. I started to take the thermostat housing off today, but then stopped. I decided to order new hoses and replace those at the same time. I also have the gaskets so I can remove and inspect the manifolds and risers.

If its a raw water cooled engine, there is not much pressure on those hoses. I replaced mine too but it probably was not necessary. I saved the old ones for spares. Use OMC gasket sealer or similar (Permatex Aviation Sealer) on the gasket and bolt threads. The thermostat on those is held in by a rubber ring that fits in a groove in the housing.

Follow-up:

I finally had removed my sunsport seating. Did not take many pictures, but here is a picture with the seating removed. Feels like a different boat with all that floor space!

Image

The procedure for removal was as follows:
1. Remove "Futon" section of seat bottom and back by removing the four 1/4-20 bolts that are in the sliding slots.
2a. Unscrew the "Headrest" section from the gunnels by removing screws from under gunnels. Mine only had 1 at each end, but there were holes for 3 at each end. Requires stubby screw driver (phillips) and a mirror helps.
2b. Unscrew the "Headrest" section from the starboard support box by removing 3 #10 nuts and washers from the studs that stick down into the engine compartment.
2c. Lift out the headrest section
3. Remove the Starboard support box by removing 6 screws from the floor. No other dis-assembly of this box was necessary, as two people can lift it out in one piece.

That's all. Now that I know how, two people could do this removal in about 1/2 hour. Replacement also 1/2 hour for 2 people. So I'm sure I will do it again when I need good access to the engine.

That looks exactly what my boat looks like with the seats, bulkheads etc removed. I have the bulkhead in front of the engine across the boat, cut in 2 pieces with a take apart hinge in the middle and then the 2 dividers that go fore n aft on each side of the engine. All secured with machine screws/wingnuts. The seating is 2 -36" pontoon couches that are secured to the deck with fasteners that have studs coming out of the deck into the bottom of the seat frames. I remove 4 wing nuts in each seat and they're out. Takes about 15 min one person.

Similar to this, but in red/grey/charcoal 36" wide. I also have matching helm seats. I like the rear bench being in 2 sections because that way, if I am winterizing all I have to do is remove the port side seat and bulkhead so I can get to the oil filter. When I replaced the starter last month, all I had to do was pull out the bulkhead on the starboard side and pull out the seat on that side. Moved the battery back and that's it. 10 min tops to do one side.

My 1999 Sundowner was slightly different.

Those "rails" on the floor were absent, the 2 sides of the engine "box" were screwed to the floor via aluminium L brackets and to the back of the support for the seat by the same means.

The horizontal cross piece over the engine at the stern bulkhead was absent , there was a folding lid over the engine, hinged to the rear bulkhead, that had brackets for storing water skis on it.

That horizontal cross piece over the engine does not have any purpose other than being a convenient place to put tools and parts while working on the engine. That folding lid idea is interesting...as there is 8 or 10 inches from the engine to the bottom of the sunpad... I was thinking of ideas to use that space for beach chairs or something like that.

@LouC: Your setup sounds great... but I'm not about to give up my nice one-piece 7' bench seat.

There was a "notch" but into the top edge of each engine box side, that the lid would locate in when it was fully folded, to keep it open. It covered the whole engine compartment and had a stainless steel piano hinge holding the two halves together.
