I think 4bbl carbs use less gas than 2bbl because when running at low rpms the primaries are smaller and then kick in the secondaries when under power. I could be wrong, but when we built the engine this winter, we bought a 4bbl Edelbrock 1409 and it has been really good on gas. The engine has a performance cam and intake, so should be putting out a bit more than the prescribed 260HP stock.

My SD came with a 14.25"X21" Pitch aluminum prop and it was topping out at about 4000-4100 RPM and 41-42 mph on GPS. I bought a great shape OMC SST prop on eBay that is 14.5"X19" pitch, and it is perfect. Hole shot is great, and top end is now 45-46 mph on GPS with 4300-4400 RPMS, which is in the range of where it should be. That is with me alone, full tank of gas (50gal) and most gear on board. I am sure on a flat calm day with less gas, etc. it could do more, but I am happy with it.

Your boats weigh quite a bit less, so with 4bbls, you might be able to push over the 50 mark.

The Holley 2300 (500cfm) on both Todd's & my 5.7GL is still good for 250 odd HP.
I have Hi-Tek stainless 4-2-1 headers on my 5.7GL along with the Holley 2300 (2BBL) and manage 55MPH at 4500RPM.
If you can do the labour yourself, a mild cam/ lifters/ valve springs upgrade will be awesome 'bang for buck' on our engines. 8)

Hey deaf, did you install your HI-teks yourself, you said you have the exhaust coming out the back of the transom? can you send me some pics. :D Also different subject , but on your youtube video of your stereo system, what was the name of the song playing. Kinda liked it. I haven't really figured out what all I want to do with the boat yet. Still thinking about it . Gonna be a winter project I am sure. It does everything I need her to do as is for now. but you are right its in our DNA. Thanks again.

Todd

Manifolds/ risers are a simple job to do at home, with basic tools.
With the exhaust, I simply removed the exhaust bellows and fitted an exhaust flap to the transom plate's outlet.
The track was from Daft Punk's latest 'Randon Access Memories' album! 8)
