To each their own.

I'll admit I have a unique situation that allows me to have multiple boats without substantial storage costs.

But, if you were in a position to consider a 40'+ bowrider, the cost of keeping several smaller boats could be easily justified when you consider the costs to store, moor and maintain a 40'+ boat that isn't great at any one thing. That was the point, more so than saying everyone should have multiple boats.

In Washington - it's most always raining. You just have to judge what "type" of rain it is... Kind of like Forrest Gump. Big ol Rain drops, Little ol drops, etc...

Truth is, rain does not bother me much here. Thunderstorms.... Different story. We get 2 lightening strikes and they freak out like it's a Typhoon. Until you have seen a thunderstorm in Arizona (where I used to live) - you have not seen a thunderstorm.

We were on vacation in Corfu mid September a few years ago (our 25 year Wedding Anniversary). In a restaurant overlooking the Sea, dead calm then the black clouds and wind suddenly appeared. A small powerboat came into the bay, the driver didn't even drop anchor, just jumped off and swam/ ran to the shore. Minutes later multiple lighning strikes into the water in the small bay (missed the boat) and torrential horizontal rain drove everyone inside, into the part only used in winter. 10 minutes later it was gone !

Florida is the lightning, tornado, hurricane, shark bite capital of the USA.

When I say it's nice to have a cabin to for shelter I'm not kidding. I can't even count how many times this year alone I've had to haul butt to a cove and fear for my life.

easier solution for me is to just gel cot my cockpit and roll with what the weather dishes out.

I have a video somewhere that I need to find for ya. Stuck in a severe supercell on the boat with some friends onboard last year. 50+ MPH winds, zero visibility. Lightning all around. Two girls cried in the cabin.

your laugh made me crack up.....I have been in a tropical storm crossing from the house in the bahamas to miami in a 28 Center console... I know all about boats and storms.. just hammer down and keep the foul weather gear hood over your head so the water does not run down your back..

It was sunny and all of a sudden started getting dark, I saw the shelf cloud come across the tree line and told everyone to hold the fcuk on. I hammered down to the closest thing I could tie off to, some random dock. My passengers were like "What's going on??" and I just told them to get inside it's about to get really bad. Living in FL everyone was like yeah okay Rick whatever. Within 5 minutes of tying off to the dock is what you see in the video for about 30 minutes. They still talk about it to this day.

I flew in a small single engine (piper archer 3) from Nassau to Ft. Lauderdale during a tropical depression ignoring Miami tower for not having landing clearance on takeoff. 9k feet, max airspeed, dodging thunderstorms like an obstacle course. Had to get home.

When would you need such a big bowrider? I mean we had 10 people (6 kids, 4 adults) to watch fireworks on my boat for Canada day, and it was fine, and its only a 24'.

To impress your buddies. Same reason why we have supercars and mansions.
