It's a bit funny looking, but I think I could grow to like it in a "function over form" kinda way.

I don't like the looks at all. The black plastic bugs me, makes me think it may fade over time. The screw on the top better be stainless. I also don't like the two leds on top of the unit, do they have a purpose?

I don't care for the plastic either. I concur about the fading, and I'd bet it'll look bad after the first waxing. However, it seems there just aren't any LED replacements that don't have this odd look that fit the flat area molded into the FW pulpit. I really wish someone would come up with a festoon bulb replacement with high power LED's, wide angle projection, and some means of preventing it from rotating in the housing.

The screw, however, is stainless. The two things on top aren't LED's - they're fiber optic indicators to enable you to verify that the light is on from the helm.

Mike, I think I would pass on that one.... I don't like the screw in the top or the plastic. Eventually you will find one. What do the new FW boats have on them? LED or incandescent? I'm sure you've looked everywhere but just keep your eyes open as will everybody here i'm sure.

Maybe swap the guts from that one into the housing from the OEM nav light?

I thought about that. For some reason, the guts on the few LED versions I've seen are much larger than the guts from any incandescent light I've ever seen. Especially in the case of the stock Perko unit, which only has one very small opening in the bottom to remove the bulb.

I too wonder what the new FW's have on them, but I'd be willing to bet they're still using the same Perko (#0227, I believe) that I and many here have.

I have the ultimate solution.... Do the entire LH side of your boat in Red LED's, and the entire RH side in Blue LED's.... then everything in back (under-swim platform, etc) in white LED's.... this way your whole boat will either look like a rediculously oversized Nav light, or be mistaken for a UFO. Anyone with a better suggestion????

Or, just keep plugging away; I know you'll find something you like, and the rest of us will use your idea!

Hey, now that's an idea! Actually, there aren't very many choices in these things. I haven't found more than 3 or 4, and the two I've posted about are the best looking of them. I'm really stumped as to why the mfr's can't make an LED version of a traditional looking light that isn't twice the size.

Don't know if it helps, but this is a 2010 nav light:

Nhprinter, it might help a lot. Is that LED or incandescent? Who is the mfr?

Mike,
Did you check the specs and dimensions of the Perko Stealth series??? Looks like a low-profile light, about 2 1/2 in across/long; not sure the height.

http://www.perko.com/uwlight.php

Look under Small boats Nav lights> Bi-color Bow lights, second page.

Not sure how it would look on a FW.

I'm not sure Mike. I haven't even looked at it and the boat's up at the lake, but here's an LED that's a pretty good match:

I looked at the 0619, but the 4" length is too long for the mounting area. I think that may be the one you pictured, so FW may have enlarged the flat mounting area in recent years.

I might check into the 0615, though. Whaddya think?
