Just so you know, 99% of all Florida boating is fresh water.

Prove it with some published data.

Perhaps Ric hasn't seen a map of Florida... Sure there is one Mickey Mouse city in the middle, and a college town farther north, but 90% of Floridians live along the coasts.

and Yes, I use my Four Winns I/O Bowrider in salt water and the Atlantic Ocean, including the notorious "Boynton Inlet" http://floridasportfishing.com/magazine/pros-tips/white-knuckle-nightmares
I also would be willing to make the crossing to the Bahamas in my Horizon. Given the right summer morning conditions, could make the 60 miles to West End Grand Bahama Island in 2.5 hours. However, would not do it without at least one other boat with me. I did it once in my previous boat.

Is it just me? I don't understand the appeal of "U-shaped" seating :?

I think it has alot to do with having a seat for several guests ? ?

With removable cushions it also has a nice walk thru to the cockpit.

Anyway, now the H180RS is also available with outboard power.

Your Chap and my Horizon would both do just fine for summer morning crossings. The only thing stopping me is the price, and the hassle of going through Customs and Immigration at both ends. There is a $150 per boat entry fee. This fee allows two visits in a 90 day time period. Gas: about $6/gal Hotels and restaurants: overpriced.

As a part-time commercial pilot, I fly into Freeport a couple times a month, flying a private plane for one of my clients.

I'm sure the OB sport boats are plenty fast. Just for fun go watch the Glastron jumps over the '73 Chevy Impala police car sequence from Live and Let Die (Bond film). Came out when I was a senior in HS. I think the boat and engine (2 stroke Evinrude) were modded to an extent, but OMC even bragged about this in some of their ads...

here 'tis....go to :22 to see it, bad guys chasing him did not so so well.....

Loved the 1973 Live & Let Die James Bond boat scenes, but Lou, you are giving away your age. You were a senior in HS, I was in 4th grade. Some others here were not born yet :D

Yep ahm old...

But I look at it this way... I was lucky enough to grow up with the original muscle cars.... That 73 Chevy cop car in the movie... Our high school driver Ed car was the same car..

Enjoyed this thread. Curious if any members have taken delivery of a new 180 OB with the 150HP on it? Wonder how the performance...both top end and for water sports (ie pulling) will compare. Seems like most say the 3.0 I/O with 135 HP does not pull real well or handle a "boat load" of passengers real well...at least compared to the 4.3 I/O with the 190 to 220HP?

Would be nice to get actual comparison/opinions/experiences between the new 180 w/150HP OB and say the new 180 I/O with the 220 HP 4.3??

Another question...one of our uses would involve backing trailer down a moderate hill and backing directly into a small lake. My "plan" would be to use Polaris Ranger side-by-side to back it down instead of my SUV as it is much easier to maneuver. My thought is that a 180 OB would be somewhat easier to back down and launch in a small lake environment than a similar 180 I/O? Would the height of the drive unit be further off the ground with the OB than with the I/O? Would maybe ease the backing down the hill and the launch into lake?? While I know a 19' would give me better space on other waters...I believe an 18' OB might be a "reasonable" compromise. Other choice is to go smaller yet (extreme example is the new 16' Bayliner Element with 60HP or the Glastron 16' w/115HP...currently two of the 2012 16' Glastrons at local dealers for $18K...pretty good price?) and limit to the small lake setting...which I do not prefer.

I really like the 150 HP 2 stroke 18' NH 180 OB SS...(with standard windshield vs the tinted one...not sure if the windshields are "interchangeable"?) May have to wait for used one...pretty pricey :) Thanks...Tom R

P.S. Those who are familiar with a Polaris Ranger 800...would the boat pull me down the hill while backing down? Would it work better if I could pull the trailer/boat down rather than back it down. Polaris is rated for 2000# towing but we are talking a very short distance...and Ranger does have locked 4 wd???

my family has owned a SLIP JUMP for a couple decades.. basically its a network of marinas and coves that we can dock at for free whenever we want.. grandad spent like $5,000 for it years ago.. and yes it has more than payed for it self over the years as they would spend the summers hoping all around...

as i have pent many summers in the bahamas the key is the smaller islands to local islands thats how you do bahamas and save.. forget Nassau and all the tourist hot spots. the small islands have the best reefs and beaches. i enjoy West End but the best spot is Crooked Island , Long Island Cats Island we always do the local thing and it is the best.. there is a cove on cats with maybe 20 or so slips and a beach side sand floor restaurant that has the best Conch fritters and fried conch samich.. and it is dirt cheap prices as its not a tourist spot.. i prefer to engulf the local style and true experience than the tourist spots..

but if you are going to hit up Nassau you better spend a day at ATLANTIS that place is absolutely amazing.. from the casino to the art, aquarium and water park.. its a fun spot...

key to salt water I/O is flush after use and inspect the bellows on the regular..
