Obie - We are upside-down, so to you northern folk, it's still spinning the same way.

Will my throttle cable bracket be re-useable from 2BBL to 4BBL?
If not, can I source an auto one, or are the cable terminations different in marine?

When I changed my 5.0l to a 5.8 four barrel the bracket did not work so I had to make a new one. I'm guessing you will have the same problem unless where the bolt holes on the new manifold are in the same spot as the old one otherwise you will have clearance issues with the new carb. As to where to source them ?

Oh man that manifold will steal 20hp from your engine. Ancient emissions controlled 4bbl OEM GM manifold. Designed for a 160hp v8 from the mid 80s!

Please elaborate; I am all ears.
GM part number is 346249 and came off an early Corvette with a mild engine.

It's a cast iron manifold during the age of the gas crunch. Doesn't even come close to a edelbrock performer intake that you can pickup used off ebay for $70. I wouldn't put that thing on, the factory marine cast iron 4bbl manifold is better.

If you want to stay cast iron due to dissimilar metal issues, that's a wonderful intake to use. Just be sure to get the proper EGR block-off plate for it. They'll flow enough to push a 400ci small block to over 350 HP... seen it done.

Edelbrock makes a marine manifold with copper/bronze inserts to solve the dissimilar metal issue. 350hp is horrible for a 400ci engine. You should be doing 350hp out of any sized small block with basic bolt ons (mild performance minded cam, 600cfm 4bbl, intake, vortec heads).

Those Edelbrock Manifolds are over a $500 expense, down here in Oz & I can't justify that.
Of all the performance workshops I manage through work, this manifold will be ideal for this application.
Here's an image of my current 2BBL manifold:

Is the arrow pointing to the EGR block off plate? If so, I'm thinking I can re-use it on the 4BBL?

Well, no matter what it's going to be a massive upgrade from what you're running now!

Bolted on a 3 blade VP 14.3 X 21P prop today & got a resonable increase in top end!
Was up around 4800RPM, which it didn't seem to mind. I doubt I'd have valve float at <5000RPM?

Previously with a Solas Amita 4 blade 14 X 21P at 4400RPM:

Your motor is a roller vortec 350 so valve float is very unlikely with that detuned volvo cam.

It's pretty cool seeing that a stock manifold and 4bbl can raise ya a good increase in speed! Imagine what would happen if you installed a mild performance camshaft!!

You're making me jealous I can't wait to start upgrading my v8

Ric...I don't think he would need the came and all the other things you mentioned. I believe he was just going for some more performance and already had plenty of power.

But Ric, you may need it on your chaparral. Seems I remember that being underpowered for a heavy cuddy

This is pre-Vortec (TBI heads) and has a flat tappet hydraulic cam!
I haven't yet fitted the 4BBL manifold - The only change was the prop to my ordinary setup! 8)
I'd be a happy man with a 50 Knot boat & hoping a 4BBL manifold & carb will get me closer!
Oh & is there an RPM limit to these SX drives?

It's plenty of power for 4 people, but full of gear and some buddies it gets sluggish. 280-300 would be perfect for my vessel. I can only imagine a vista with a small engine it must be horrible.

*keep in mind a 215 chap is a BIG boat for it's LOA. I've been in some mid 2000's Sundowners and if there was a FW equivalent it would be a Sundowner 245 due to how they measure (chap doesn't count the swim platform)
