Ok, I think I've got it. Now I just need to find an impeller and the rest seems easy.

I am trying to track one down also, without jacking with Phil Dill, but still being an OEM part.

Anyone know the part #? Looking on worst marine there are many impellers but no way to tell which on. Are they all the same size?

Regarding the impeller: on the list under the schematic on marinepartsexpress for a 5.7l Gi has no part number. Super. I've got all my books at home. I'll check them.

after a second look I bet the part number shown across from o-ring (3858938) is for the impeller, o-ring and lube.

No, when I put that part number in their search it just finds the o-ring for $1.92, so not it.

Ok, I'm an idiot........right above that is the Impeller kit part number.........3842786 1 Impeller kit.

Part Number: 3842786
Description: RPL 21213664 (Volvo Penta)
Price: $ 50.16

this is getting silly.....that's for a 5.0 on the schematic but the index page before says 5.7 all across the top.

Ok, I think I finally found the right schematic for my engine, now the problem is when I look up the part number it says replacement part but doesn't give the replacement part number.
Probably just need to call them...... :o

OK guys, here is another unsolicited suggestion from a salty old driveway car and boat mechanic.....consider finding a local source for parts...even if it's a dealer....that way when you have questions there is an actual person you can go back and ask...and when you add in shipping, the 'net is not always cheaper than buying local... I get most of my parts from my local excellent former OMC/Merc/Volvo/outboard shop and they can get just about anything in a couple of days, and if I have a question about the installation that's not obvious in the manual, they always help out. That's worth something, especially if you are new at working on your own boats.

You know something, I COMPLETELY AGREE with you. I am simply bitter that rather than my dealer trying to make a fair and reasonable profit on my service, they want to break it off in me. With that in mind, I am NOT buying my parts from them. I do however need to find another local source to do business with.

When the boat's under the Volvo warantee, you have to use authorized dealers if you have something that actually needs to be fixed, not regular maintenance, but when that expires, you can look around for a good independent shop...I was lucky, I went around asking for someone who could work on an OMC Cobra, which is not always easy to find, and started going into this shop to buy parts, small stuff, and asked questions. I talked to them enough times to be convinced they knew their stuff and they turned out to be great mechanics for me. I do agree, you can wind up feeling taken advantage of by some of these places, it's a bad feeling and we all work hard for our money today. When you get comfortable doing much of the maintenance on the boat, you will get a lot of satisfaction from feeling independent of mechanics much of the time, but it's great to have a good one when things go beyond what you can do.

That's a great ideal Lou. We or should I say I get so caught up in going to the internet for everything these days. So Lou, I have another question on this subject. The Fogging agent that the dealer is using, I think they told Steve another reason he had to come in was because they needed to "flush" that agent out, for lack of another way of saying it..........what I'm getting at is does this make sense? Wouldn't the running of the engine the first time burn up whatever fogging agent is there? I always fogged the engine on my waverunner before putting it away for the winter, but never did anything other than just start it in the spring. Am I or are they making something out of nothing? If this is infact what they told you Steve.

edit: yeah, reread the first post and that's basically what he said:

Quote:
need to put in a chemical in the intake to dissipate the fogging agent they use

I never heard of that before, but then I have never had a fuel injected engine on a boat either. What I do is start it up and run it on the water hose to burn out the fogging oil and then put in a new set of spark plugs. It'd be interesting to see if the engine manufacturer says anything about that in their manual.

David, yeah they actually told me they spray a chemical in the intake to disolve the digging agent.

David - I did a little more searching. Looks like your boat and mine are the same part number. I am going to go ahead and get mine ordered if I cant find it locally (other than our FW dealer).

This appears to be the best price I can come up with...

Its amazing what you can find in an owners manual...

Open up your Volvo Penta Engine Operators Manual to page 96. This talks about it being safe to run the engine on the hose. Page 97 shows you where the blue plastic petcocks need to be screwed in...there are 2 on each side of the engine. Now, look at page 99...it gives you directions for replacing the impeller.

This is like a Geico commercial....so easy a caveman can do it.

I am going to order my impeller from a guy on eBay. Its a couple dollars more when you factor in shipping costs than the link I posted in the thread. The reason I am going this route is because this guy took the time to look up the part number and give me some direction on what I needed. Its an OEM parts kit, like everywhere else so I should be fine.

I don't have a VP engine manual with my boat. Any good places to get one? I don't see them online of FW site. Also let me know what you find with your impeller. I made another post, but curious of the condition of yours. Considering ordering a new one for my boat. Got 115 hours on it now.
