I'm sure the Four Winns outboard boats will be a bit north of $16,995, but not to much more, depending on how you order it.

I do like the "fishy" version. We have some great fishing areas around here, and it sure would make a nice "tender" for our 30 footer.

I think as long as the price is reasonable they will sell...when people see how much more a cat converter I/O costs (like $3000 more) then the OB with much less maintenance is going to make more sense...One thing we all know from owning boats for a while is that the cost of maintenance is a major factor, they should be advertising how much less has to be done and the fact that you can use it later and earlier in the season because you don't have to manually drain everthing, just put the engine down.

As far as water sports...with the proper equipment people use OB boats to pull skiers and tubes here all the time....
As far as looks....well that's a matter of taste......

Some pricing I have seen for the H180 OB. I had hoped to see it closer to $ 20K with decent options,
but in the mid $20's I'm not so sure how well it will sell.
The boat will be offered with up to 130 horsepower, but a 90hp is expected to be the most-popular choice. Base price with the Mercury 90 four-stroke will be $22,333 including a trailer with brakes.
The sterndrive version H180 with a 130-hp 3.0-liter MerCruiser has a base price of $22,487 .
The swimplatform is a full 30 in. wide on the outboard version, compared to just 11 inches on the sterndrive model .
The H180 OB is 175lbs. lighter than the sterndrive version. WOT with the 90 hp. Merc was 41 mph.
Some more comments from a boating mag.
Quote:
Going forward, the H180 OB is identical to the sterndrive version of the boat. This is a runabout that’s obviously built to a price point but never looks cheap.
The grab handles are stainless steel, there’s some LED cockpit lighting and a stereo in the glove box, and the full glass windshield has glass side panels. The bucket seats swivel and adjust fore and aft, but do not have flip-up bottom bolsters (that’s $308 extra). The helm features an OEM control to match the engine, and a combo speedo, fuel and voltmeter gauge in the center of the dash is flanked by a digital depth gauge and a brace of warning lights. No tach, and no trim gauge.

It will be interesting to see how the OB version sells compared to the sterndrive version.

Another example of how Al Gore's lie about global warming has affected boating (along with the ethanol we are poisoning our engines with). His false presumption is costing tax payers and consumers billions and I hope they take away his Nobel Peace Prize as well as the money he made off his "inconvenient lie". What a shame that boat manufacturers have to ruin the sleek design of a boat with an ugly outboard.

FYI, the cat converter on the 3.0L sterndrive for the H180 is a $2500 upcharge for 2011.

After owning both a 170 with 115 power and a 180 with 150 power, I wouldnt consider the new 180 without the option of hanging a 150 on the back.

what's the hull rated for?

I'd love a little 18 footer with a 150 Yamaha or E-tec on the back!

The 180 O/B we are taking to the show has the SS package graphics and the F115 Yamaha... $25,565.00... the classic color band with the F90 Yamaha is priced about 2k less.... the boat is based off of the H180 and not the H180 LE... so pretty comparable with the H180 @ about $22,600. Haven't priced it out with E-tecs yet but I'm not an E-tec dealer either

For you guys thinking that the 115HP is not enough you are forgetting that the last time FW made an 18 with O/B it was actually an 18 footer... not the 17' one we call 18' today. Lighter boat... Lighter motor... power to weight ration changes and it runs just as fast as the 3.0L (which is now fuel injected and cat converted) but I not saying I wouldn't love to bolt a 150 onto it :D

Hey Bryan - what is the hull actually rated for? 130 max?

Why?

Bigger isn't always better and the advantages to an OB in my opinion outweigh any compromises a smaller boat may have. For your boat you need more tow vehicle, more gas, more draft, larger footprint to store, more maintenance, 100% neccesity to winterize and less manuverability with about the same amount of interior space, similar hole shot and similar performace up to about 46-47. Honestly about the only "advanatage" I see in your boat is a faster top end. While that is nice, I am satisfied with sub 50 mph.

I'm completely satisfied with this:

Now I'm just hoping that Four Winns grows a pair and offers Outboards on some more boats again. When I'm ready to move into a newer boat I want to have some options.

At a minimum they need to offer an outboard on a 190 or 200 to be in line with my 180. Based on the current naming a convention this new 180 is more in line with the old 170.

My 170 is only 16' 6", while my previous 180 Freedom was closer to 18' 6". I think the new 180 is really an in-betweener

Good point RR, and that "big boy" costs almost twice as much as a new 180OB, and alot more than the boat you have.

Good point. In addition to length, I think beam width is probaby just as important if not more important in this case.

Here are the specs

Previous 170: LOA: 16'6", Beam: 7'6"

Previous 180: LOA 18'0", Beam: 8'0"

Current 180: LOA 17'5", Beam: 7'7"

Current 190: LOA 18'6", Beam: 7'11"

I guess your right the current 180 really is an in-betweener.

I still think that to get comparable space and roominess to the previous 180 you would need to be in a current 190 with an OB.

I am really hoping to get into one of these new 180 OBs soon to be able to get a feel for the size and stuff compared to my boat.

Yes, was the width of the old Freedom 180 that made it such a huge boat in the 18' class. I made a trip by my dealer today to see if they had any in stock, unfortunately they were closed already.
