Hi there,
I own a 2006 220 horizon ,with a volvo 5.7 gi single prop. The boat has always seemed a bit on the stiff side, but almost everyone would say that unless they just replaced both cables. Anyways, here is what happened to me on the weekend. I was idling back to dock to pick up some friends, and was trimed up almost all the way as it was very shallow, and alternated between foreward idle and neutral. The last time I went from neutral to foreward it was very stiff, then almost no feel at all back to neutral and no change or response from boat. Putting shifter foreward again just sped up rpm and travel so I cut the enging power and coasted from there. At this point I could literally move the shifter in a complete 360 with no feel at all. Pulled out my tools, and found nut under neutral button to be loose, almost off,so tightened it up only to find the range of motion was a quarter of what it should be,and in gear as engine will no turn over with key. I unscrewed control bow from side of boat, cables and arms all look good, but wont operate as it should. I pulled back cover off leg, all is as it should be there so I figure something inside shifting control box is broken, and nuetral button won't push in either now, perhaps because it is in gear already. Any advice would be great

cable either came off in the leg or on the control. If both ends are attached it snapped somewhere in the middle.

That happened to me a few months ago, but it was 5 minute fix. The cotter pin came off under the cover in the leg.

No everything looks good under the leg cover, other than a cotterpin was rubbing a bit, bent it out of the way to fix that. I will look at it again in the morning, will try taking cables off and check for smooth operation of controls, and see how the cables move by hand.

Hey there, figured it out, and posting this as a warning and iformation for others. As I said before, this happened as I was at a dead crawn back to the launch. It was very shallow and was trimmed up almost all the way up which is very hard on cables,universals.......Anyways, I had just taken the control from neutral to idle foreward, but when I tried to go back to neutral there was no response and no resistance and would only go faster if I moved control foreward. This seemed bad this close to ramp so shut the key off. I could literally do a 360 with the controls with no resistance at all,so when I removed the neutral button to check bolt it was finger tight,so tightened it up only to find there was very little movement foreward on controls, but normal range in reverse direction. Back at home the next day, I removed control from behind boat side, disconected cables and found all to be working as they should, and then I remembered back to what happened. I reset all the linkages back to nuetral position on the controler,re-attached cables and that was it good as new or even better as I lubed all piviot points up. In short, all linkages must be set to nuetral position to syncronize them before installing the control lever or things just wont work. Couple of hours of digging to figure out something basic, just didn't know what had happened at first. Warning to all, pull your nuetral button out periodically to check shifter control bolt periodically is a good idea. Hope this helps others as this ruined one day of boating for me
