Greetings from CT,

Enjoyed reading the forum while searching for my used boat.

I picked up a 1998 Horizon H200 with the Volvo 4.3GL.

I assume there will be a longish list of things that need attention to on a boat this old, and I only have the previous owners word on mx history and such, but hoping there arent too many things hidden.

I posted on the engine forum about a prop wobble I noticed after getting the boat, here is the text from that post.

No obvious prop damage which leads me to believe it has been this way a while. Didnt notice anything while on the test ride but as a novice don't know what it would feel like.

I am ordering the manual, and was planning on fixing it when I winterize the boat in a few more weeks. Curious how big a deal this is, can it wait? My feeling is there are probably quite a few boats running around out there with bent shafts that are not aware of it,

I found the Horizon manual on the four winns site but can't find the operators manual for the engine/drive. Any thoughts where to get one (preferably electronic?)

Otherwise I am ordering the manuals and continue to search the forum before asking rookie questions...but there will be plenty I come up with I'm sure

Here is a website http://www.wholesalemarine.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Store_Code=1&Screen=seloc

Lots of great parts numbers, details and schematics/exploded views of engine/drive. For instance, here is the schematic for your possible bent shaft prob http://www.selocmarine.com/retail_counterman/xview.php?Figure=VPDRIVE98e06&Show_Mfg=Sierra I believe you can order the actual repair manual from there as well. Sorry, no help on an electronic copy.

Is there a simple reason why the trim won't go down. (trim motor runs up (already up) but makes no noise and trim won't go down. acts like switch is not making contact down. Just asking before I dig out my meter and start chasing wires.

Thanks

Relays, contacts, bad switch, loose wire(s), bad pump, low fluid....take your pick! Could be any of those. Do you have the trim up/down "rocker" type switch on the throttle lever?

Also, do you have the plastic strut inserts that keep the drive from falling? Make sure they are removed before trying to trim down. No insult intended, but I forgot to take them off once and thought something was broke as well...

no worries about insulting me!

troubleshooting will have to wait a bit, off to vacation first thing tomorrow

(rocker style switch on throttle) good sounding 'click' both directions.

If it is the style with trim motor inside boat which I think it is ... my money is on selonoid.....mine did same thing on 96 merc....u have selonoid for up and another for down.......try tapping on trim motor cover with handle of screwdriver and try it. If it starts king then buy selonoid.

More new questions, just back from vacation so I get to clean up the boat, mow the grass, go through the mail etc.

Ran the engine for about 30 minutes on muffs today, trim worked fine (no fiddling on my part )

Engine warmed up fine, barely came off the peg on the temp guage but risers were warmish hot to the touch (could keep hand on) and water exit was nice and warm.

Oil pressure very high at idle, into red then comes back a bit when reving above idle. Wondering if this is more a guage/sender issue (VDO setup) in fact for about 30 seconds the pressure went towards zero, alarm went off, battery charge light as well, then all came back with no input from me. Again suspecting a bad sender/cluster. Any best way to troubleshoot that?

thanks for reading.

thanks,

The cleanup crew works well, though the union insists on long video game/TV breaks and oreos.....attention to detail still has yet to mature in this crew as well :)
