Advise please.
Do I need to do anything with my 4.3 Mercruiser, will be out of the water for 3 to 4 months before it's used again.
I haven't had one of these before.

Cheers

Graham

It's been a while since I was in Melbourne, but as I recall it doesn't get down to freezing temps there.....

At the very least, I'd add some fuel stabilizer (Stabil, or similar) to the gas tank.

Thanks for that. Never below freezing but gets close. Boat is garaged for three months.
Spending September in Canada and then time to go boating again.

Cheers

I would recommend a battery tender... Not a charger which of left on too long will boil the battery.

I like this one (can handle up to 6 batteries in a series) http://batteryminders.com/store.php?spawner=icon_home&&app=boat

My 2cents worth. If it doesn't have much fuel in it just fill it up with fresh petrol and stick the battery on the charger for a while just to top it up. Do all the usual checks oil, power steering fluid, drive fluid etc, then hook the muffs up to the hose, and kick her in the guts ( start it up) just to make sure everything is working properly
Hope this helps
Ps I am with you come on summer!!!

Hi Ardy.
I'll go with you on that.
Can't remember how much fuel is in it. So long ago..

Where do you do most of your boating in SA ? Lakes, rivers, sea? Might bring the boat over one long weekend.

It depends on how pedantic you'd like to be!
You could likely do nothing at all & it will be fine upon your return (other than a likely flat battery).
If your boat fuel injected?
I would definately go to your local Burson/ Supercheap Auto & buy a bottle of Stabil for your tank and use/ borrow a battery tender (Ctek Chargers are great).
You could go to the minor effort of fogging the engine to ensure it's reliability when you return.
I've got some aerosol fogging oil if you'd like to borrow some?

Thanks Daz.
Looks like the weather will be a little better tomorrow.
I'll get some of the stabil. Sounds like good stuff.
Might drag it out of storage and give it a run on the muffs and clean out a few cobwebs.
It's only been a couple of months so I hope the battery is ok.
I think it's the non fuel injected model. 190hp (took a lot of notice when I bought it)
Thanks for the offer of the fogging oil. Had no idea what that was so had a read up on that. Sound like good stuff.
Might buy some of that also.

Cheers

Just need to clarify one of my posts if you are storing the boat for long periods and can't get to it, then add stabil to the fuel. My winter lay up usually involves 10 watt solar panel hooked up to keep the battery lively. Add a few litres of fresh fuel every week (Nothing with ethanol ) to freshen the fuel. Kick it in the guts every so often with the hose attached ( Monthly) Polish it, check and regrease wheel bearings. Works for me
As for where I use it, normally on the Murray river at our block near Morgan South Australia
Hope this helps
Ps hurry up summer!!!

All a go. Chucked in some fuel (premium), towed it around the block, fired up straight away.
Forgot how nice it is.
You have a great spot on the Murray there.
We skied at Torrumburry (near Echuca) for about 15 years and haven't been back there for the last 15 years.
Looking forward to getting back on the Murray one day
Never boated further down stream than Wentworth.

I'll get the picture worked out one day

Thanks, Graham
